There is a nice article on spearfishing in The Field magazine this month (August 2014), pp74-77. Forum members may recall that our friends at The Field magazine & its readers helped & supported us when we campaigning against the (apparently unintended) spearfishing ban that the EU proposed to implement a few years ago. They published letters and readers signed the on-line government petition.

The article features several well known spearos including several that are forum members - and good to see several veteran spearos featured & still spearing. The setting is a BSA spearfishing competition at Thurlestone, South Devon - which is coincidentally something I witnessed myself a few years ago, while on holiday nearby. The competition featured competitors from Greece & Chile, as well as "the usual suspects". The article is really positive and it makes a point of describing how there are limits per species, extra points for different species and that all of the fish caught go for human consumption - and there is some detail on that.

If you haven't read it before, it's a great magazine if you are interested in the countryside/field sports/fishing/dogs/horses and the food, culture, events and activities associated with it. There is a pleasant thread of lightheartedness & humour running through the magazine. Past articles have included beachcombing/crabbing & numerous angling related articles, at home and abroad. One recent article featured Eric Clapton & other "rock royalty" known for enjoying & supporting countryside pursuits ... & tweeds .
