The Leopard Seal

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Just as well the diver didn’t except the gift of a Penguin:chatup, you know how it goes, first a Penguin then it’ll be “I need more commitment” and before he knows wants going on it’ll be to late. And I wouldn’t want to tell one of those Leopard Seals that is all over and you think we should go our separate ways.:crutch:crutchroflroflrofl

Poor penguin! I have seen a few documentaries about leopard seals - bloody fierce creatures!!

did you guys notice in the video that when the leopard seal opened its mouth, if it wanted to, it could have eaten that video camera and housing in one big bite?! rofl

scary critter......

I didn't figure it out earlier, why it was being so insistent on gift giving.

I just recalled the behavior of animals when looking in the mirror; most (eg. gibbon, dog) think the reflection is a stranger, while those with more advanced brains (humans, chimps, dolphins, orangutans) realize its their own reflection looking back at them.

I'm guessing that this leopard seal must have seen its reflection in the camera glass (they have extraordinarily good dark adaptation vision) right at the beginning, and presumed the mirrored image was another leopard seal. Since the diver was behaving very non-aggressive and slow, the seal may have thought it was either wounded or a female to be charmed. I don't know if these seals exchange food gifts as part of their dating/mating ritual like some other animals do, but it would perhaps explain the persistence.

or maybe its just a big puppy wanting to play pitch-the-penguin...
