I thought i did alright when I found a two pound coin at Durdle Door last year! Pretty amazing that there are still wrecks with lots of booty on board left in the Oceans, especially so close to shore in a well dived part of the coast.

I think something like that mite be one of the coolest jobs in the world, imagine what it must be like hunting for real treasure every day of your life. Sure bad luck at some times but then you find something like this :D kaching...
It is very possible that it should be there, most of the time people dont know what theyre lookin at. Have you searched the area where you found the coin a bit more, surely if theres one there should be more hey...

All of that loot is currently in a secret location in America being examined by coin experts. Can't see it leaving again, can you?

Who is entitled to the salvage? Is is deemed a state treasure and the exploration company just get a fee? I must start tracing my genes now, hope to find a black beard or long john silver and ready my claim. Must cost a fortune to hunt for these finds, very exciting though!

I think probably depending on the age of what is found they determine wether the finder gets a finders fee in relation to the worth or the worth of the whole shebang. Also if it was found in international waters and coastal waters plays a role methinks. So this should actually be uk property...

And I always thought that whatever You take from the sea is Yours to keep..
Pop! Another bubble burst. :t

Well if you ask me, if If I found someting like that, i'd just keep very quiet!:D

I read a book on this actually. In South African waters it works something like this: If the wreck is younger than 75 years old, it's finders keepers! so long as it is no on sombody else's strip of sea. If you unintentionally (whatever that means) find something on someone elses property, you are entitled to a cut of the findings. But generally speaking treasure hunting on somebody elses property is conciderd ilegal. If the wreck is older than 75 years it's government property no matter who found it or where it's found.
