A sneak peak at the new design of DB coming over the next week. Different parts of the site will launch into the new design starting today and ending next weekend.

The forums will continue in the same vein, the new design will slowly filter through. The forums and main site will slowly integrate more tightly but the forums will continue to look and run in a similar manner :)

For those waiting on any changes to appear - i've run out of time tonight. Most things are in place ready now just need to do the main move of the main site most probably tomorrow (Monday 24th) now. This is a relatively large undertaking as we're moving to a completely different platform and migrating between the systems needs to be done carefully (not rushed before getting a few hours sleep!)

Right - the main site has moved across. Mind our dust for the time being as the site beds down - there are lots of minor tweaks coming over the next few weeks. Forums and other parts of the site due to move in the next week prior to DEMA starting on 2nd November.

The forums have finally moved over to the new design. Please use this thread to report any issues.

So far nothing too bad, just the design looks somehow much more spacy (less condensed) than before, resulting in much more scrolling. To an occasional visitor it won't make any difference, but a regular reader will probably notice and find a bit uncomfortable.

You can see it the most noticeably for example on the root address of the forum, in the footer - there is the "Top 5 Stats" chart that is now twice as high as before (while keeping still just the same information). The threads, menus, and all other parts seem to use higher padding values too, so everything is quite more spacy. I know that it is more or less just a matter of being used to, but personally I liked the original design better, and would prefer if it went rather the other direction (more condesed design) than it did.

But then again, who really cares, the most important is the content, and that will certainly remain great :)

Ivo - thanks sir - always appreciate your point of view :)

I'm working with the designer to do some tweaks. I've already got a snagging list created and trying to fix things as they come up.

Padding and spacing on the forums definitely is larger than before and i've highlighted this to the designer, who is still working on getting it reduced.

Anything specific comes up let me know in this thread.

There is one minor issue with the drop-down menus, but it is not related to the last design change, but rather to the recently added "Likes" feature. Once the "Likes" bar appears at the top of a thread, it covers drop-down menus such as Blogs, Search, and Quick Links, making them innacessible. The designer needs to adjsut the z-index at the bar, to give it a lower value than at the drop-down menu.

Perhaps yet another suggestion if I may voice my opinion, Stephan, but again it is absolutely nothing important or too bad:

The black footer at the very bottom of each page is on my mind unecessarily prominent. In fact it does not contain any useful information, except of the software version, so personally I would take it either completely out, or make as small and as little visible as possible. Having it the most visible part of the page makes little sense. If you do not want to remove it entirely, using a really tiny font on a transparent backroung (instead of the bulky black), would certainly make the entire page layout look lighter and less cluttered with useless information, hence also more user-friendly.

I have had that issue on my laptop for months (as reported durring the last upgrade)

On my monitor the whole page seems to be a bit wider than my screen, I have to toggle the page right a bit to finish reading it?
Wasn’t like that on the previous version.

Oh and the “mark forums read” doesn’t seem to be working either?
just comes up with this-

My messages folder keeps coming up with people insulting me and saying derogatory comments about Manchester in the threads.

Is this normal?

;-P
