I was going to go spearfishing in Mendota, but Tedski bailed on me so I hit the outlet instead.

Water wasn't flowing but the weather was nice and I headed out to the inlet pipe, It stands at least 10' tall and sits in 25' of water. There were a couple of anchors and at least one dead carp in the area. Not very interesting compared to spearing, but at least I got wet and played around with the monofin for a while.

The wind was up, so vis was down, and the water was still hanging at 2C (36F) degrees. They have a nice floating ice fence, to keep the snowmobilers out, but the lake is wide open so there's not much need for it right now.

Yey!!! Our own forum!! Great job Jon! :)

And during the last month I'm only getting wet in a swimming pool, though on the other hand thinking about jumping in cold water gives me shivers :)

Jon,

Last year, they turned the water on on Feb. 5. Have you checked lately? (Not sure if there was a way to check without getting in the water...it has been so cold lately.)

I sure have a nice little ice rink in the back yard! The kids are really enjoying it.

Also, just so you know, I started a Forum for the August Wreck-A-Palooza via boat...just to get it going.

I think I will start a carp shoot one for April - possibly Rock Lake. How/where would you access Rock Lake (from shore) for a shoot? I've heard there are some huge gar in there as well, which would be a bonus.:)

Will need to do it in the later part of the month as I will be gone for Spring Break...Rocky Point, Mexico!!! Hey, too bad the fishing contest is only for Wisconsin speared fish... :vangry

Are you still doing apnea training on Wednesday - E. YMCA?

Gene

I was out there last week and it was frozen up pretty solid- the 10 square feet that were open were clogged with ducks and geese.

I'll be at the pool tomorrow night, around 8:30pm.

There a boat access on the north side of Rock lake, with parking near by, that I've used in the past. If that's packed there's a small park just a couple hundered yards to the east of the boat launch that we could go in off of.

Jon

Jon,

Sounds good. Do you wear a wet suit in the pool for training?

I will try to be there...possibly with my son too.

I also put out an April Carp-Spear-O-Rama that I will set for Rock Lake...I need to check the regulations, just to be certain there is no closed time for Rock Lake Spearing.

Thanks,

Gene

Any of you Madison people been past the OUTLET lately? wonder if it's still very green- or if this cool weather has cleared it out some. I can't wait to get in there when there is decent vis and get some good video of those Muskies - swimming up on me! If you happen to be in that area - take a peek for me please.

I biked past it on Sunday, on the way back from taking my kids to watch the Ironman competition, and it was very green.

Paddling on someof the lakes I noticed that section of the river seemed clearer than I remember, due to the rains, but there's so much boat traffic that you wouldn't want to dive there.

I haven't been up to Mendota in a while so have no idea how that is. Waubesa and Monona are prettymuch shot for, at least, another month.

Jon

I was kinda thinking that! Thanks for the input. I wasn't really expecting to go there till about November anyways - But I thought I would check. Thanks guys
