The World Series of Freediving – ODEX-Treme Neptune Freediving Challenge

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
They are the complete rules, and they are more detailed then for the 1st comp held in 2012. It is confusing that it's written down as the second WSF "Elite" competition because the 2012 one wasn't declared as an elite comp.

Some interesting points I observed while watching the comp, and by reading this post my reflection on the rules :-

- The Judges including one with experience seemed confused on the rules far more often then any AIDA comp I have ever seen. Some decisions took 2 to 3 times longer.
- Amber's 200m dynamic would have been legal, or at worst case just a penalty under AIDA rules.
- There are no protests, judges decisions are absolute.
- WSF Judges are Instructors or staff from SSI/Aquanaut.
- All entries have to be approved by the SSI/Aquananaut.
- Most of the top male freedivers either competing or not competing that weekend were/would have been handicapped by the no-packing rule.

This is barely scratching the surface how silly the rules are. For example using bi-fins it's illegal to use a dolphin kick, that would get you a red card. Lack of any rules banning doping, O2 use etc. I wonder if anyone from outside Australia will take any of this seriously. It may follow on from the similarly named WWF, now WWE and falling into "Sports Entertainment" category rather then purely a Sport........ rofl

Well the reason for me asking isn't to make judgements on the WSF rules or the judges. In fact I wanted to see if there are any good rules I can poach for Pure Apnea.

WSF can make any funky, weird rules they want, but I'm trying to decipher Fran's report. Without access to the rules she mentions in her report it's just an advertorial. I asked Fran for the rules by commenting on the actual article, but my comment was removed.

Hahahaha and after I bitch about my comment being removed, it suddenly reappears! Hopefully the WSF rules will appear next so that I can figure out what the heck this report is all about.

The reason is that it was stuck in a moderation queue (so never appeared in the first place) and you post prompted me to do a review to find 4 comments in various posts (including yours) not published so I corrected it!

Thanks Stephan! I don't suppose you know where these WSF rules can be found?

<edit: Never mind... it appears that those are all the rules.>

I don't but have asked Mike Wells directly to contribute to this thread.

If there is a more complete set of rules, it would be great if it were made public. If not, then here is one example of why a more complete set of WSF rules is needed:

1. "Surface Swimming for more than 10 mtrs is not allowed"

Q: Penalty or DQ? The rules don't say.

2."Fin Surface break for CDYN / DYN is allowed"

Q: Is there a rule that covers the area between a fin surface break which is allowed and "Surface Swimming for more than 10 mtrs"? What about a surface swim of less than 10 meters?

Hopefully Amber knew about the 10m surface swimming rule and hopefully she knew it would result in disqualification.

Guys, you have gone seriously off topic here. A new thread for this please!

If/when Fran or Mike comment it'll be nice to go straight into this WSF comp's rules instead of wading through AIDA and SSI politics first.

Folks - this thread has gone off topic. I will split the threads and move the Australia posts to the appropiate forum. None will be deleted just trying to keep the thread on track.
