I am thinking about buying the Omer Bungee line which is 8m and stretches to 24m.

I currently use Omer orange poly line about 4mm thick which is 'ok'.

I spearfish in depths from about 5 meters to 14 metres.

What are peoples experiences from using this line?

How much resistance will I feel from a bungee line when I dive deeper than its relaxed state ? The line will be connected to float and gun.

No replies to this thread. Went ahead and ordered it from a French retailer.

I've been using it this year and I'd say its generally pretty good.
It's hollow and light so floats nicely and seldom, if ever, tangles. Downsides are its a bit of a pain in rocks/weed as if it gets stuck on something it will stretch for a long time before you feel it and then have to backtrack to release it.
For the type of diving I generally do in relatively weed free deeper water I really like it.

Thanks for that. Going from your comments I think it could work out for me. My main fishing grounds at Southbourne are mostly weed (and feature) free.

It can get quite blustery here. I noticed that my poly line gets tangled more when there is surface chop and wind. I am hoping that the bungee will reduce the chance of tangles as I am often diving 10m+ and I don't have to have as much line out - just stretch it instead.

Have also ordered a drogue to stop my float drifting away from me when it's windy.

I'm trying to maximise the no. of opportunities I can get out in the water here... previously I had only been out when it's flat like a mill pool, but I am finding if I can deal with the surface chop, it is ok being out here when the wind picks up a bit.

It's my first season, so just going through the 'replace most of the gear I first bought with stuff more suited for me' stage.

Just a suggestion, if you are dealing with much surface chop then look at extending your snorkel a bit. Its an idea that old man dave used and makes sense if you get fed up with getting water injected into your mouth, down the pipe! :)

I have used this float line for the past couple of years, I have dived to depths of 22m and found it a great comfort to know that when I return to the surface the float will be within a metre or so of my head! It is great for drift diving and just marking a spot with drop weight. It's only real down fall (for me) is that you can not hang off the back of your float whilst breathing up or resting if in tide.

If using it for a surface marker ie from boat I have found that a 4lb weight is just perfect for it to hold bottom but more importantly not too heavy to be able to retreive weight with out snapping the line....... Don't use it in tide faster than two 3knots or buy buy float, line and weight lol!

That's exactly what I am hoping to achieve with this line.. having the float near me when I resurface... if I was fishing close inshore in a sheltered area it wouldn't be as important but in Poole Bay it feels quite exposed here.

Going from you comments it doesn't sound that strong though. I will have to be careful ... my guardian float fully kitted with fishfinder, vhf etc weighs about 6 or 7 kgs however the drag is minimal when towing - I will have to check if the line is strong enough to tow it without putting it under too much tension (most of the time I just fin from the float)

I use mine for a 11l surface marker its perfect, I have a dive hunter but wouldn't use it for that........maybe buy two!

ah rats, seems it's not going to be strong enough... for the price of 2 I could maybe make a DIY riffe bungee type line.
