hi guys im thinking of taking up spearfishing and was wondering if its worth going on some sort of introduction course for it?
i love fishing rod and line i also do a lot of shooting so i thought i would combine the two.
Also im from northdevon and wanted to know if there is any local spots that are known it be good.

Any advice will be much appreciated
thanks

Hello, and welcome to the sport. There are tons of available references to help you but for the most part I would not advise the need for an introductory course. Some things to consider are your current ability. I for one am a freediver spearfisherman but if you are scuba certified use that. I would recommend starting with a polespear. It will help your stalking skills and you will learn how the local fish react to you. It is important to do adequate research before buying a polespear since different materials and lengths may benefit you than what is commonly used. Once you have expanded your skills. It is very important to know the laws and regulations of seasons and what fish you can and can't shoot. Following the rules keeps the sport clean. Besides that, have fun.
