Hahaha - I used to be a sysop on Compuserve in the good ol' early days of the 'net. The area I managed was the Multiplayer Gaming area which was all about Doom, Quake and all those good early gaming days.
I dropped out of that crowd after a while but one of my assistants went on to found Multiplay UK, a major LAN gaming company - now hosting events as large as 1500 people. I went to a couple to visit once and it's like they speak a different language - w00t this, 0wnz that, no idea what they were talking about.

Multiplayer Doom... that takes me back to uni days! It was all a novelty - our uni servers were banned from having games on there but was a computer nerd known as "King Arthur" who used to hide Doom on there and you had to know someone who knew someone to get the mile-long drive path to type in, then sneak in after 11pm when the security went home and play till 5am. Happy days!
