What kind of thoughts are spinning inside of your minds while holding breath
I try to think not thinking but some says not thinking is already is to think :)
i realy did not find out the answer/s ...some hold over 6+ beyond or 8+ what he /she thinking...it looks like a very very long journey...

i cant hold that long ;)

i think of water, blue, going down, coming up... waves, dolphins... reefs...

In the freediving course I am following, the instructor told us that it depends... There are different solutions for different people.

1. You can think about a path, a serie of activities you perform usually.
You can think about what you did the morning when you got up.

2. You can concentrate on your muscles and rleax them, starting from the feet fingers and going up

3. I read in Pelizzari's freediving manual that there is a relaxation method called Katabasis based on the colours. You have to think about a serie of colours (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet) to relax first physically and mentally.

4. ...

Personally, I try like you Sedate to think about nothing like when I try to fall asleep.

Nicolas First i thank you for your explanation
There (here) is no any way to find any book written about freediving..i searched many times bookstores and asked seller ..he/she said: ''no idea i have''
Some says Pelizzari's freediving manual is good (i heard it) not selliing here
if you have a scanner at home and if you send just this part of to me ...would be very helpfull..if you haven't got...no problem ...All the Best

Hi Sedate,

I can scan this part if you want but I bought the book in italian.
I have to check how long is this part. Otherwise I'll try to translate it (this way I would train my english).

Sorry for late answer (0:10 am here) ....Yes i like it :)

When I am doing a staic apnea I start out with relaxing my muscles from head to toe. I take my time with this. When I finish this I try to take myself back to my child hood and re-live good things that have happended during my childhood. This seems to work really well for me, it totally keeps my mind of the time.

A couple of days ago I was doing dry statics, when I seemed to go somewhere very nice. It was sort of like a greenhouse, with blue light shining in, and all fuzzy, so I couldn't make out any details. I can still picture it clearly now.

I wasn't anywhere near LMC and finished clean at 5:30. It was near the beginning of the static. Maybe I was just very relaxed?

Anyone think I've been holding my breath too long? :D

I was the same when I first started. In the pool it wasn't so bad, but for dry statics it was impossible to think of anything else except not breathing. Then I got used to it, and it was a bit scary at first to find myself thinking about everyday things while fighting a terrible urge to breathe. Then instead of thinking about random stuff, I would think of nothing and almost fall asleep, and that's the best for me.

The best is to suddenly notice that I have done 4:00 without even thinking about it, and I'm still feeling fine to do more. That's what happened when I did my PBs, both dry and in the pool.

Well i once heard of people listing to music, dry statics ofcourse. That helped me, first time i tried this i listened to 'moonlight sonata' and set a new PB. 4:27 if u was interested. I find it helps me not think about what i'm doing.

The relaxing and clearing the mind part I try to do in my breath up before the dive starts and while Im under the water I consentrate on a spot, I pick before I descend. My trick to 'forget' about the necessity to breathe is to rub my fingertips together and concentrate on that sensation. It helps and was taught when I did my freediving coarse.
Just my two cents worth.
