Tides/Currents

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.

I encountered very strong tides round an island recently.

Just wondering what good advice there is for dealing with this as a few of the decent spots near me inevitably involve speeding along whilst trying to put the brakes on!

I have been surfing for years so appreciate the general rules relating to tides/winds/currents etc.

Tides and currents are a thing you must make a friend of. There is so much to say that everyone is too shy to start such a complex discussion again...

I suggest you to check this old discussion, one of the most informative threads on tides and spearfishing ever discussed on deeperblue. The debate derails from page 3 of the thread, but the first 2 pages are all substantial info's and based opinions.

Look up tides before you dive there. When they change or if there is a strong wind, you may find it very difficult to get back. I spent five minutes trying to pass a pile of rocks on my way. Gave up and exited in a different spot
