Tiger Woods Freedives/Spearfishes

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I’m waiting for an invite from Tiger to go spearfishing on his yacht with him. :) Probably won’t happen. But then I never thought this would happen either. Apparently AP released these pictures on yahoo. http://search.news.yahoo.com/search/news/?p=don+moore&c=news_photos

The article ran in several newspapers over the weekend and is also on Sports Illustrated web site at http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/more/wires/08/03/2080.ap.out.freedive.spearfishing.adv06.1641/

I need to get back to work now. My boss thinks I spending too much time with this :naughty .

The difference between Tiger and Don is Tiger is a half decent spearo but Don is crap at golf (or so rumour has it ;))
Sorry Don :D

Good one Alison!
Actually Tiger and I are very similar. We both have boring high stress jobs and use freediving as an outlet.:D You can pretty much guess what my golf abilities are with that attitude. I guess you already did! ;)
don

PS Of course there also a small difference in earning between his job and mine. :)

Tiger scuba hunts more than freedive...though he is taking the perfprmance freedive clinic this year. He is quite accomplished on tanks in the gulf though.

Tiger already took the PFD clinic in Cayman during the last World Record attempts. A friend of mine (and fellow DB member) who also attended said Tiger went 100+ft. Also said he's a pretty cool guy and when offered private lessons by the PFD staff politely refused and instead said "just throw me in with everybody else". If he really does enjoy freediving so much, I would assume as his proficiently increases he use of tanks will decrease. At least that's what happened to me. As I got better and better I donned tanks less and less until after about a year of crossing between the 2, I never bothered to mess with SCUBA again.

Don,

Congrats on the article!!! I think it had all the right elements in it (excitement of the sport, safety, dangers, training and fitness, competitions, camaraderie, different disciplines, etc.).

Shame he cant post here and give Don some golfing tips :)
Actually I find the difference in attitudes towards golf on either side of the Atlantic facinating, like in the states its just another game that anyone does but here its very eliteist and everybody gets grumpy when Alice Cooper turns up and thrashes them rofl

From what i've heard it seems whilst Tiger does both Scuba and Free he enjoys Freediving Spearfishing a lot more.

Alison,
My attitude on golf is not a good representative of the U.S.A. attitude for it. There are a lot of golf fanatics here too. That is why Tiger is the most indorsed athlete in the world. Actually I started watching him play on the TV more now that I know he likes to Freedive! Gee the concentration that man has is incredible! He has almost tied my other athlete hero, Lance Armstrong in terms of admiration.

According to the Mat, the AP writer, Tiger shared that he was actively practicing dry statics and walking dynamics on a treadmill. Sounds like he has the freediving bug to me. How many spearos even bother with training?

Its great to have Tiger apart of our community! :wave

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Draeger.....oh, THAT was BAD.

The reason why Tiger the spearo is practicing, is because he took a really good freediving course. I dunno if I'm allowed to say which one, but let's just say he's got his money's worth.

Evidently, there're a lot of spearos who get too competitive, when out with others, that don't feel they have time to adequately purge CO2 between dives. This makes their spearing almost twice as more dangerous to them and to their dive buddies. I don't spear, YET, but I plan on practicing just as hard as if I was going to do competitive diving.

And we mustn't forget folks that we have our own famous celebrity in the forums now....

Don Moore!!

In Texas. hee-hee.

I kept on trying to meet up with Don while I was in Rockport (just north of Corpus, but couldn't break away from the family....argh!) Next time, Don....NEXT TIIIIIIiiiiime!

I can't link to it here as for some reason my work PC thinks apneamania is a porn site - but there is a photo of Tiger and Bill S in the gallery on there

Tiger just got back from a tank trip to the middle grounds on the Jolly Rodgers II...and why cant you say it was the Performance clinic? Its not like its a secret:)

No. Kirk had told us about Tiger having been a spearfisher for some time and how Tiger was really a focused student.

There's an article about Tiger that mentions his freediving in the latest issue of Mens' Vogue, which I never woulda picked up in the first place if it hadn't had the word "spearfishing" on the cover...
