Here's an amusing idea: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=22959
MIT throws party for time travellers

Dr Who and friends please attend

By Nick Farrell: Tuesday 03 May 2005, 06:50
ONE OF THE great arguments against future technology enabling time travel is that, if it were possible, we would have been already visited by such types.

MIT has decided to resolve the question once and for all by throwing a party, er convention, for all time travellers who may be in the correct time and space, next week.

The party will be held on May 7, 2005, 10pm, at 42:21:36.025°N, 71:05:16.332°W, which is the MIT quad, so you can set the co-ordinates of your Tardis correctly.

Organisers point out that you would only need one time traveller convention as time travellers from all eras could meet at a specific place at once.

Although organising the blow-out is what MIT students do best, they really need some help in advertising the event so that people from the future can make sure they are there.

One of the organisers suggests jotting down the details on acid free paper and inserting them into obscure books in academic libraries or carving the details in stone. CDs will probably perish long before well made print books of the past crumble.

Future readers can find out more details here, but probably have read about it already because it has turned into an urban legend.

I heard about that yesterday. The only thing I'm worried about is the space time continuum..

If anyone went back in time, he/she'd be in trouble of looping his own reality. Dooming him/herself to have his/her entire history up until the point where he/she jumped off from the future to join the party.

whether or not the universe is ready for a surge in parallel realities is beyond me, but it rather selfish to find out.

I was indeed under the impression that the restaurant at the end of the universe was just one big infinite party. :)

I'll draw out a likely outcome theory of the result of time traveling to interfere with the past. It'll have to wait. I'm a Powerpoint presentation monkey today. Throwing feces at the computer screen and what not.

I went the last time I phased through MIT. It will/was decent but the brands of beer available are/be better if you go upstream a hundred years.

well actually i have decided that time travel into the past is impossible. Not becuase of space/time continueums(sp?) but becuase as soon as you go back as far as the creation of your time machine, during any time past that the time machine does not exist. ie say the machine was built today, if i go back a year, there was no time machine in 2004, so therefor it cannot exist when i go back then... so boo for backwards time travel!!! the future travel is a lil more feasible.

Sorry man but your theory has been disproven :p Someone has already built one and is for sale on EBAY
