I was very close to get me the gopro surf hero hd for this xmas but in the last minute I decided to do something wise: check for feedback....turns out these cameras don't seem to be so great for us freedivers and spearos (focus problems, blury image) so I went for the aeris f10...yet I keep hearing a few good feedbacks on some of the cameras....what's your experience and recommendations out there? I still feel like I wanna get it but not sure, if it doesn't work underwater then what's the purpose for us? :D

My GF asked me what I want for my birthday in March, so she is going to give Dan a call as well.

Cheers, Don

Having been on a long diving trip with others who were using the gopro hi def with the focus fix; and seen a bunch of their videos, I'd say it was fabulous for what we do. Its a very limited camera, very few bells and whistles, but what it does do, it does very very well, and that seems to include what is important to freedivers. Further, the makers are providing lots of associated equipment, mounts, etc that make it a joy to use when diving.
Check out the videos and stills here:

its mostly utube quality, which does not do it justice, but you get the idea. Everything was taken with a gopro.

what gopro really lacks is just a screen
not for review, nor for settings or else
a crap screen to see what you're looking at...

anyone knowing if such an accessory exist? i heard some accessories (extra battery, screen, etc) with their dedicated rear part of the case would be available, but couldn't find any

the attachable lcd fits into a window on back of casing so will not be able to go underwater as it exposes the camera, a big improvement would be to put the red blinking light in back or top so you don't have to keep turning it towards yourself to check it

The LCD expansion is coming, but as was already said it will do us no good underwater because it requires the use of the additional skeleton door for the housing which has openings.

from what i read, it should come with a special case door which substitutes the standard one

i see the skeleton case but that's just intended to add external connections and it is not waterproof

This is the Gopro LCD backpack which is supposed to be coming this summer. I thought it mounts through the existing additional back skeleton door but I was wrong, the holes do not correspond to the connection points. I guess it will require at the least another back housing door.
