.... that is the question!

What do you think is better - a footpocket that fits your foot well without a sock and you lube your foot with something like a silicon based lube to stop rubbing and chaffing; or a slightly larger footpocket and wear the fin with a sock?

I was always a sock wearer but last year I did some diving in loaned fins with no sock and just lube and I though it felt better, bit more feel with the fin.

I'm looking at upgrading fins now so what's everyone's opinion - sock or no sock? Water temp is not an issue.

Cheers,
Ben

we at AA always teach that a sock might increase energy transmission from foot to pocket (and then to the blade) and i am convinced about it, especially when you wear a pocket that fits slightly slightly tight with your sock on

otherwise, as far as i can i never wear a sock: i never do it in pool, cause i don't like the feeling of water pouring into the sock while finning (maybe my socks are way too loose over the ankle...), i didn't while diving in Sharm last november, and at last i always do when water is a bit cold (under 23-22°)

an issue is that my fins are C4 mustang and the pocket is something you can actually wear anyway you like, even with some sexy nets:chatup

Yes i'm with you there Gabriele, a sock in the pool is very annoying, all you can feel is water gushing over your ankle.

I actually thought there may be some energy loss when kicking with a sock on, just due to the compressible/flexible nature of neoprene.

And I don't like the thought of getting a footpocket a size too big and then only ever being able to wear it with socks. Maybe a 1mm sock is the answer.

The Mustang footpockets are quite unique, i'm still thinking about maybe getting a set, though probably without the fishnets ;)

Cheers,
Ben

i use a different fin for training- hours and use the front part of an old sock, for a max. training dive i use a different fin with lubricant/ conditioner

i m talking about monofins and heel-strap pockets

Benny if you actually spend some time kissing and looking deeply into her eyes... oh ,sorry.

Hey Benny
i reckon get the foot pocket that fits and try the Oceanic thermoskin sox. they are a little thicker than lycra but only marginally, cost bugger all from your local shop dont compress at depth, take the edge of cold water and stop any blisters etc. thats what i've been using with sample pair of fins that i am using. have to admit i usually use a 3mm sock but thats only because i got the wrong size footpockets with my last fin purchase...

but i think thermoskin with tight footpocket is the key.

hi benny. i find that bi-fin foot pockets seem to rub if i wear them for too long. i have a very good fit so i can wear them with or with out socks. but if i go for a spear i find they rub after a few hours.
i wear 2mm socks while spearing and when pool training i got those little half socks that cover my toes and most of my foot that stop rubbing but they do not reach my ankle so i do not get the water flowing down the sock. they are the best!
