on an average, how many kicks are you doing in 50m? ive just started an interesting underwater training regime in preperation for the summer diving here, and instead of timing myself, i decided to count kicks, i dont have the use of a pool but the sea is right there, i just start from right behind the breakers, and go out.

also, does depth affect the ammount of kicks you do? in 60 kicks, i get a pretty fair distance, but with 80-90 kicks, even though i feel that i am doing it the same, i start rubbing the sand more often, and dont go as far.. no weightbelt either, and im only in about 16 feet when i start rubbing the sand.

Are we talking monofin or bi-fins here?

With a monofin, in a 25m pool, it think it was last about 12 kicks per lap, so that would be 24 kicks. I might be remembering wrong though...That's with the continuous kicking style. With the old "kick and glide" I used to do, I think it would be 9-10 kicks per 25m. Of course it's possible to go lower than that, but as a dive strategy it makes no sense...

I use bifins, BUT, with mono kicking style since i do not own a monofin. An optimal kicking rate for me is 12-13 kicks per 25m. I would say 25 for 50m. This might not be an interest to you however. More kicks will get me tired whilst i find less more inefficient. I do not count every dynamic, but sometimes and when I go the most efficient/relaxing way thats the amount of kicks.

The reason for me using a monokick is because I am simply unable to use "standard" kicks. The mono kick is the easiest way to go for me. I ought to get me a monofin!! What do you people think, will my result benefit from using a monofin instead of bifins when the monokick is my natural way to go?

Most likely, yes!
