Hi I'm going to be getting a wetsuit very soon now (omer mimetic brown). a 5mm for british waters, do you think it will be to hot to wear out in dahab in june when I do my freedive course or should I just stick with my old triathlon wetsuit. could really do with some feedback on this as then I can go out and start buying freedive gear soon!!!:p

Absolutely. Not only will you overheat by a big margin in the water, you'll cook in the 15 or so minutes between starting to put your suit on and getting to the water. Heat exhaustion and dehydration will be big issues.

Triathlon suit should be ok - the no-hood will help keep you cool as well as the inner lining will let a bit of water in. You should be fine, maybe even a little toasty.

In fact I have a 3mm suit I wore in Dahab in December very comfortably, but i'm heading to Dahab again in June myself and was thinking of wearing my tri-suit or even try diving without a suit.

Out of curiosity, what course are you doing out there?

Cheers,
Ben

Hi bennyb, yup thought I might get to be toast in that. the trisuit is a good Idea.
I will be doing the aida *,** course with "desert divers " I can't wait! Sanso will be out there working for them and it seems he may even be taking me through the course, he will be training for the triple depth comp. out there, will you be doing that too? sounds like fun to me.

Looks like we might be rubbing shoulders then, i'm out for the Triple Depth, training a few days earlier then hanging around for a bit, hopefully staying with Sanso.

If you've not done much freediving before then you'll have loads of fun on the course, informative and some good depth targets that'll make you hungry for more.

Cheers,
Ben

Coo-el , look forward to catching you guys in action. was going to try get my wife into it too but she gets a bit nervous in the deep, she is going to do some climbing as she has a passion for it. see you there

...(omer mimetic brown). a 5mm for british waters, ...
Brown? Says something about the water around Essex!:D And I thought murky green was a bit sad. Must be nice to live near blue camo conditions:).

I´ve joined a couse in Sharm el Sheikh, last November. Air temperature was always around 30° C, water was between 26°C and 28°C.

We had sea sessions every morning, for about 4 hours. In the afternoon there was another session in the sea for about 3 hours.

I was using a 5mm Cressi Suit. No problems at all. I had a few situations, where I opened the suit a bit to let fresh water in it to cool down a bit. But I wasn´t cooking at all.

At least when doing static in the pool I was very very happy to have a 5mm suit. The pools down there are ******* cold. *g*

Hi Mr X, yep its mud plain and simple .... and lots of raw sewage, still the hot water from the powerstations keeps it toastie !!rofl

Thanks for that Dennis77,seems like winter is a good time to be there. I was out there in 79 in the mid summer and can still remember the heat! going to take my old tri wetsuit and see how it goes

Hi Mr.X
You live near bluewater conditions? now you've done it ....you got me wondering, just what do fish see... is camo in brown any more effective than blue camo??
ok I admit it I want one of those nice blue omer ocean mimentic suits. is it going to make a difference in green water with brown and black rocks/seaweed..... what do you think???
