Hi guys i am new at the forum and doing free diving and spearfishing... well i am going direct to the point i want to make my first speargun but i don't know what tools i need if i need a drill or a band saw, or a router, ect. please someone can help me with a list of basic tools need it for my first project thanks in advance.

Hi im new the the sport /hobby myself but im in the process of building two of my own and you will need a drill with wood bits, a router and some sand paper mainly . Keep all your basic hand tools near by though, like screwdrivers, chisels and so on.but you will need some nice strong adhesive and some clamps for the initial bonding of your wood of choice, I found a jigsaw was a great way to get my shape and handle correct but I am using the wooden american method, I would also adise that you buy in your trigger mechanism as making one as a novice is not a good plan. Talking from experience, hope thats some basics covered, a more experienced member will hopefully get back to you soon.

  • thanks! what kind of drill bits i need, and when you said that you are using the wooden american method, what do you mean? sorry i don't know anything about wood working or spearguns lol but with patience and lots of hours watching videos i am going to make it. but first i need to know what tools i need so i can start from scratch

What do you use the router for - just routing a rail along the top or other things, like the trigger mech. hole?

I'm not one for power tools (other than a drill) but I use quite a lot of hand tools these days. I wondered what hand-tool(s) might replace an electric router (probably not a router plane). One option is a plough plane. But I've seen that some woodworkers just shape a piece of metal for a specific purpose, sharpen it and mount it in a wooden body, it's called a scratch-stock; this one looks like it was made from a mortice gauge:

Or is an electric router definitely the way to go?
