If you could pick the top 10 cities in the world to live in that had the best access to the best freediving in the world where would they be?

Try and include more than one continent please and don't be to biased!!

Port Hardy, BC Canada
Dahab, Egypt.
Danau Maninjau, Sumatra Indonesia.
Nusa Lembongan (island) Indonesia.

There are other places that I would like to go to ie: Chile, Galapagos, Brasil, Argentina, but my short list has places I've been.

Define "city"...

Alright A Good Freediving " City ": Somewhere that is relatively warm year round (never really below 65°F 18°C) that is less than 50 miles (80km) to the water, and yet is a decent sized city that is modern.

Down here in Wellington, New Zealand we don't qualify for warmth or deep water, but we have a few good divers slumming in the area...

My top 5

Bristol, UK - very near Chepstow and 85m of year round diving, and a great place to live

Dahab, Egypt
Sharm, Egypt
Kona, Hawaii
Vancouver, Canada

Nice/Villefranche sur mer (France) of course!!
200m and more, 3 minutes by boat form the port, 300m from the shore, no wind, no current, no waves...

Siracusa in Sicily: it's Enzo Maiorca's hometown, very relaxing place to stay, unbelievably rich of arts and culture.

(The 18°C all year round requirement kicks almost all of Europe out of the picture. Siena for example. And Cinque Terre).

Definately not melbourne australia! Freediving Blows here!!!
However wilsons promontory is some pretty spectacular diving with huge bouldery terrain. The weather makes it hard to get out there though.

Maputo, Mozambique :inlove lovely place to live and there are some nice spots here off the coast with lots of fish and visibility. And you can go on weekend trips to the beaches Tofo (mantas) and Ponta d'Ouro (dolphins).

I haven't freedived in Cape Town, but I hear it is great also. And that city is fantastic.

The flooded lime quarry Kreidesee in Hemmoor is about 80 km from Hamburg. I don't know what living in Hamburg is like, but Kreidesee is my favorite confined underwater playground.

New York.
you are in the middle of it all....Long island, Road island, New jersey.
Then dutch springs a 65 m lake

Australia cities probably would rock this thread, good place, good for road adventure, scuba also, warm water, lots of life, good minimum wage, beautiful girs, paradise

If I could get a job there or if studying there was cheap (they even be more expeensive than Portugal and belive me that is a lot) I would go there and fun, fun, fun , dive, dive all days after work and studies just like when I was at buzios (Brazil) wich is also good, but forget about any money and those expensive monofins xD

I'm partial to the BC west coast because I get to dive there =0)

Unfortunately I got into freediving right AFTER I moved back here from the Big Island of Hawai'i. *sigh*, bad life planning.

Nice/Villefranche sur mer (France) of course!!
200m and more, 3 minutes by boat form the port, 300m from the shore, no wind, no current, no waves...

+ proper hospitals, international airport, amazing food, several ski resorts from november to april at 45 min drive...

For adv depth training I would say that Sharm is on the list.

5 minutes from the bed you are at the platform with 120m + dive line going streight down below you. No problem with transport, boats or crazy swim.

Allways 27 celsius or more in the water and a CB system for safety.

The you have food and internet at the same spot as well.

Honaunau Bay, near Kona, Hawaii.

Whales pass by just outside the bay during certain times of the year. Dolphins are everywhere. Dolphins swim around you on the guideline line as you ascend and descend at times. There are turtles everywhere & a spectacular lush mountain range as a backdrop - surreal place. Honaunau also has a great freediving community.

I thought the topic was about cities where to live, where freediving is good but still a city where to live a life also outside freediving.
