Hello :)

I am interested in breaking the Swiss national record in 16x50m (which is now at 14:52).
I never measured a 16x50m (although I did one for CO2 training purposes, maybe around 18-20min).
How should I arrange my training for this discipline? My goal is about 14:00, so I have about 52 seconds to swim and rest for each 50m.
I figured, that 16x50m is more of a fitness-, technique- and CO2-test than a real apnea challenge. So I probably have to do lots of cardio and hypercapnic training, is that right?
Other than that, what do I have to consider? I havent set a deadline yet, but I think it might be end 2012 / beginning 2013.

Thanks!

Hi Kero, i think you are right. Lots of technique, cardio and CO2 training. Technique is key; you need to swim with your hips to reduce leg burn at the end. Also you need to work high speed sets to build tolerance in galactic acid.

I think following 2-3 months of basic fitness training you should focus on the actual event; try 16*50 in training and monitor your improvement. You should be wearing a fast skin suit that gives you good streamline in the water and does not hinder shoulder relaxation. You should have the right neckweight; one that gives you neutral buoyancy on a less than full breath. Olympic size 50m pool should be preffered over a 25m pool.

Good luck!

Thanks Aris!

I will probably put together a training routine in the next days and post it here to get some criticism :)
