Greetings,
So my intro to freediving has been going great. I took the FII level 1 course and loved it. I was out of the water for a while why I took care of some health issues – including a cut that turned into an infection. I mention that because my lymph nodes were already in overdrive, trying to fight the infection. While forced out of the water, I REALLY started doing CO2 and O2 tables aggressively as well as walking apnea and stair apnea (with a spotter). My PB’s for breathe-holding as well as distance in walking apnea and flights of stairs were all progressing nicely…until my lymph nodes REALLY went crazy – I mean multiple swollen lymph nodes. In addition I developed chest acne – never had it before in my life as well as another pus-filled abscess that SEEMED to be unrelated to the first one.

Having a lot of down time, I started reading about de-toxing the body and a lot of what I was doing – deep breathing – especially contracting/expanding the diaphragm appears to naturally release toxins.

So my question is- could I have possibly released too many toxins at a time when my lymph nodes were already fighting off an infection???

TIA

Deep breathing probably has a lot of health benefits but I feel like aggressive apnea training puts stress on the body especially you are not used to it, and much more if combined with exercise. Breathing/respiration is part of how the body metabolises waste (ie CO2). I know there is research in therapuetic uses for hypoxia, but it is typically not combined with actual breathhold--I think patients breathe normally but at reduced O2 concentration. I want to say I read somewhere that the stress of freediving releases a lot of free radicals, and I know for myself when training heavily I have to pay increased attention to nutrition...

A physical with a blood test might be a good idea?

Frankly, call me a skeptic but I don't think that freediving detoxifies that much. It does more seem that your infection in progressive. Do yourself a favor and go to a physician.
