Hi all freediviers,

First I want to apologise for my poor English, but I m a french speaker, I'll try my best.

I'm new to the sport of freedive, and I joined a freediving culb from about two months, and oh god I love this sport ! During my work, I cannot stop thinking about the time I can finaly go under water.

And here are my questions :

1) First a little safety question : From my childhood, when I go to the pool, a was always doing alot of 25m under water, even befor I hear about a sport called freediving. Now that I starded freediving more seriously, I m more aware of the risques, but still, I cannot stop myself from doing some 25m (10x ) even when I m at the public pool with no partners (never more than 25 m). Is there a seriouse risque ?

2) I do 1 O2 or 1 CO2 table each day (never more than 1 table) in addition to my other trainings (see below), is there a risque of overtraining ? if yes what would be the good number of tables ?
To help you, my max static is 4 minutes (didnt try more), and here are my actual tables :

CO2 table :
breath / hold
1:50 2
1:40 2
1:30 2
1:20 2
1:10 2
1:00 2
0:50 2
0:40 2

O2 table :
2:30 2
2:30 2:10
2:30 2:20
2:30 2:30
2:30 2:40
2:30 2:50
2:30 3
2:30 4

3) My training shedul is like that :
2x training with my freediving club with instructors
4x 1 km freestyle swiming (1km each day)
1 static table each day (alternating between CO2 tolerance and O2 deprivation)

When I started freediving I hadn't had any swiming courses so I was swiming VERRY bad. So I started watching videos and swiming 1 km each day (when not freedinving). Now my breaststroke is good and I'm starting to get the Freestyle swiming (with the help of my freediving instrucors).

My objectives for the next months are as follows :

a) 5 mins static (without forcing) , currently at 4 mins but forcing
b) 50m DNF (without forcing), currently I have the apprehention to go more than 25m (I do 25 m with static 40s+ at the midle of the pool easy), it's all in my head since I didnt even try.
1 Km freestyle without pauses (without forcing), currently I have to rest every 100m (2 weeks earler I couldnt do 25m freestyle without drinking half of the pool ).

Do you think my shedul is good looking at my current situation and objectives ? Is there a risk of overtraining with 6 trainings days per week ?

Thanks to you and have a soft contractions

Ok, I didn't imagine that my english was so bad

Any way a quick update : this week I wanted to break the wall of the 25m DNF, so I gave it a try (under the suppervision of my instructor) and I did a 55-60 m DNF. My only regret was that I didnt continue further : I stoped after the turn at 50m because I told my instructor I was doing a 50m (not a PB), but oh I was realy happy !

So in my objective list, the point (b) is now 75m DNF.

Another update is that I changed my CO2 tables to a new kind of table after reading a thread on thsi forum, 1:15 sec hold 1 slow breath, 8 times.

In addition to my questions in the first thread, I have another :
I wear glasses, so when I m at the pool, I cannot see the clock, unless I m very close. When I started freediving I planned to buy a diving watch/ diving computer, BUT only after I break the 50m DNF, now that I did it... I need some advices.

One thing to take into consideration is that I do mainly pool training (until the summer), so I d like to have a watch that is suitable for pool training (dive time, rest time and normal time). Another important factor is the durability. I have choice between those candidates :

-Nemo apneist : verry good looking, but I have trouble finding reveiws from users for this watch, and the activation depth is 1.2 m, which is not ideal for pool training.
-suunot D4i (novo ?): I heard alot about this computer, but it seems that it is not usable in a pool because it activation depth (0.5 m) causes alot of mini dives, and the dive mode cannot be deactivated like in the suunto D4. And the battery cannot be replaced by the user. The price is higer than other candidates (not the most important factor).
-Beuchat Mundial 2 (= Aeris f10 v2 ?) : In europe it is hard to find f10 in store, but I can find the Beuchat Mundial 2. From what I heard it is equivalent to the Aerid f10 v2, but I prefer to here it from some one that own one. I heard alot of thing about bugs and not being durable, is that true ?

Another alternative : I buy a watch and let the computer for later. Here I have the choice between :
-Casio G Shock
-Seiko 200m
-Tissot Seaster 1000 (maybe too expensive)

Any Advises ?

Have a nice weekend

For pool training use a stop watch. I use my D4 but not in dive mode. Most diving watches are not suitable/needed for pool training.

Hello there,

About the dive computer, of course the new D4i has dive off mode, so you can deactivate the dive computer mode and use it as stop watch plus it has Static apnea mode which is ever more awesome. So I would never change my D4i for anything else.

If you are thinking of buying a just timing watch for the pool, then go with something can measure your heart-rate, it is very useful to see how it is reacting to your freediving activity.

Well, general spekaing....training patterns for freediving are very vary between people and because freediving sport is still young, so no actual searches can recommend a standard training schedule or routine to be followed.

However, there are many common advices and recommendations and actually right for most of freedivers such as:

- CO2 Tables or the dray static shouldn't be done more than twice a week.
- Don't try to freedive alone, because anything unexpected could happened especially you are training regularly.
- Swimming training is very good but better to keep it with rest between 100 meters, especially when freedive in the same week.
- Recommended training days per week max of 5 not more, so your body has enough time to recover.

Think of your respiratory system as not only a plastic bag we fill it with air and deflate it. It is way complicated than this as I'm sure you know from your instructors, so what I want to say this greta system needs 3 things to stay healthy for freediving,

- Thoracic cavity flexibility
- Regular freediving training pool or sea
- Good recover times (Very very important)

So now the question what is overtraining level could be for you, the person who can answer this is you and your trainer. But I advise you to search and read about overtraining signs and symptoms.

Dive safe and never Freedive alone!
