training techniques on land

I am starting to get seriously addicted to this sport...but unfortunately I don´t have time to go diving every day. Is there anyone who can tip me about training techniques I can use on land? I have heard about the stairs training and are planning to find me a really long and steep one:)

I have been holding my breath alot while I´m studying etc., but I am very unsure of the effectiveness of this:head. If anyone has a training program they follow which really works and will share, I would be extremely happy!

Different breathing techniques before you dive would also be very appreciated:)

You better look for ones with really soft landing. When you start pushing, it is very likely you finish on the ground :crutch. Use the search function above in the menu for looking up threads about safety at dry training. There are several of them, and include also stories of our fellow freedivers who broke bones, teeth, or had other injuries when training apnea walking or biking. At apnea stair climbing, the impact will be likely much harder (literally).

And when you are at the search, you'll find many threads discussing different methods of dry training, so be sure to check them out too.

Well, since the brain shuts down some functionality and slows down when hypoxic, you won't learn a lot while in apnea. This is why for example training apnea while driving is extremely dangerous and should be avoided. Additionally, the apnea time (and the training effect) won't be great if you do no focus solely on it. You better take a break for an hour a day and do some hypercapnic and hypoxic tables. Both your studies and your apnea will profit from separating the tasks.

As for breathing techniques - again, please use the search function in the menu, or browse the freediving training techniques subforum. Especially make sure you have read the sticky beginners thread - it explains all a beginner like you may want to ask.

Thanks for good advice trux. I will do a search and study the different forums better! I think I´ll buy a helmet just in case of hard landings:)
 
Just come to the "freediving-happening" at Lutvann(Oslo) this weekend and I`ll give you lots of excercises:)
