Hi,

I haven't been in the forum for a LONG time, but I thought this would be the best place for some advice :)

I have Leader Fins monofin (I can't remember the make, bought it ages ago and took all the stickers off it so I could "decorate" it....I think I posted the photos in the forum somewhere so I don't know if they are still around), which I made a simple bag for it out of sail material, however this summer my wife and I are leaving the UK to travel. We are starting off in Bali and I am planning on taking my fin with me, even if it gets lost or stolen along the way. However I was wondering if anyone has made them selves a travel bag for a monofin, something with a harder external case or with padding? I would be very greatful for any ideas.

Thanks in advance!
Martin.

Thanks for that, had a look at the thread, I'm a looking for something a little sturdier.

Fortunately I just spoke to my cousin who has some plastic sheeting thinly lined with aluminum with you can remove, score/strip heat down the plastic and bend, so I hope to use that for the main body of the case....it's the stuff they use on a lot of billboards I believe. Anyway, I'll post some photos if I get it done in time :)

Hi there!

Seemingly You´re looking for a hard case to protect
Your monofin during the journey...
I have tried a lot of different ways to do such a
casing, without success until now.
The Airline´s pack heavers always managed to
find something very heavy to put on top.
Sometimes a label "FRAGIL" is better then a armored
case.
The other option is to take the fin on board.
As far as I know, all planes have a locker for tuxes
an suits. My fin (a Special Fins Flyer) fits perfectly
inside one of those (Either way you put it).

The distinct problem has been to get through the
security filters of some airports, because they insist
in X-raying the fin. The problem is that it just
doesn´t fit inside the X-ray tunnel.
Try to always have some spare time.

Well I managed to make what I had planned too. It simply consists of some 3mm plastic sheeting that is covered with 0.5mm of aluminium. These were then riveted at the bottom and left open at the top. A bolt the goes through both bits of sheeting to hold the monofin in place. This all the fits inside the soft bag.

Although I have now made this I am considering selling the fin and the bag as I will have just as much fin with regular fins on our travels and more likely to get a bit more for it, to supplement our travels, by selling it here than in Indo....Anyone interested?

Here are links to photos of the fin and bag:
