Travel with long blades question

Just got back from DEMA - traveled with my long blades as carry on in my soft bag and realized it was a major pain to deal with.

I was thinking that an inexpensive hard rifle case would be the perfect solution to travel with my long blades since these cases are usually available in assorted lengths that can accommodate the fins. Then I could just check the bag in and the blades would be protected from damage in transit.

Anyone have experience with this and have any recommendations on a cheap case source?

I was scared of travelling with mine on the plane...but... i've spoken with the guy on the airport who toild me that if you take "fragile"card and ask them to take your fins as a oversized hand baggage they will be safe..
And they were safe In both ways nothnig wrong happened to them. My fins travel in an omer bag for long fins

We always take our long fins on board. Had only one problem so far, when one active woman during check at austrian airport considered them very dangerous (more dangerous than 3kg weigths on a belt, that was in the hand luggage too ... her supervisor was much smarter and let us go without any problem...

When I've traveled with mine in soft checked luggage, I just cut a piece of plywood the size of the blades, put it between the blades, and wrapped tape around everything.

I found an inexpensive hard plastic gun case that holds my fins, mask, snorkel 3mm or 5mm wetsuit, gloves and booties and is TSA approved for less than $23.00.

Given that I'm now traveling with my u/w video equipment (two cameras, Light & Motion Bluefin housing, HID lights) I want to carry on that equipment.

I'll put various dive flag stickers on the case to keep the TSA inspectors happy

I figure it's easier to replace the dive gear than the video gear.

I'm heading to Sharm El Sheikh on saturday and I'm still wondering how I'll transport my long fins. Do you think they'll be safe if I dismount the blades and put them in something soft and then put it all into a big hard suitcase?

Also, what's the safest way to transport a wetsuit? Should I roll it into a towel or something?

The Egyptians are infamous for throwing the luggage around like crap, ya know.

When I went to Dahab last Year, I also flew to/from SSH. I had my suit and Gara 3000 in my Backpack with no trouble at all.
A hard suitcase will certainly be fine.
