Hey, guys. Today I was diving with my buddy and I noticed I could only get to about 30-35 feet before my ears would just have a ridiculously sharp pain. I just couldn't equalize completely. I think I have a sinus infection(been really stuffy lately, along with everybody else at my school) as well as a throat infection(because I was spitting up small amounts of blood.). Would a sinus infection keep me from equalizing completely? Or was I just doing something wrong(pinch-n-blow technique)?

Maybe you need to try the frenzel method. When i use the vaslava manoever (pinch-n-blow) i can't equalize very well, but with frenzel i can clear my both ears much easier. Search for frezel with google, you must find a pdf written by Eric Fattah. Along with this pdf and a lot of practice you can learn the frenzel method.

yeah, I have that saved somewhere. I'm gonna work on it.

if you have a sinus infection tecnique is irrelevant, clear up the infection first, if you have small amounts of blood in your spit after dives its more likely sinus squeeze or too muck bearing down on the pressure force equalize breaking small blood vessels -frenzel would be less strain but its still a sinus issue
