Trying a Slip Tip on Carp and Making a HAwaiian Sling...

I decided I'm going to give a slip tip a try. I ordered a Mori Slip Tip and Shaft. My thinking is with the soft flesh of the carp it should hold well. Also for saltwater trips too. From the pictures I've seen Mori's tip is not overly bulky and should work out well.

O'm not done with my threaded 7mm shaft with the double flopper or my Tahitian shsft that came with the gun, but I figure I'd give the slip tip a go. It's a 6mm thread I believe he told me. I have a 7mm to 6mm adapter too, so if someone else wants to give it a try when I come up (after I get to use it first of course ), your more than welcome to use it for a bit. Can even use the gun to try it out too!

I called and talked to Mori about the tip and shaft, he's a great guy. From what I've read he is a great guy to know if yuo live in Cali and has a nice shop and loves to talk equipment and diving. He even make custom equipment if one might need that service. Just seems like an interesting person.

It would be interesting how well it works. It's weird how soft their flesh is and yet- I've had spears BOUNCE off of the big ones. that's kinda why I went with the 115cm- I want to blast the spear THROUGH the fish and then they just have the line in them and that won't rip through.

Yeah, I really just want to try it. I've been debating it for some time. I guess it falls back to when I first started diving and the guy I dove with used a slip tip and told me that was the best thing to use. He hated shooting a fish and then have it get off and then have a wounded fish out there. And he "never" had one get off the slip tip...A lot less likely anyway. So part of it is a brain washed into me, part of it is curiosity and I like to have options I just need to get out and dive more!

I'm also looking to get a Hawaiian sling for pan fish. My goal is carp with the gun and pan fish with the sling(or a poke pole), make it sporting!

I e-mailed Mori this morning, hopefully I can get this tip shipped out. Since he makes guns I asked about getting a scrap piece of Teak also. So if I can get a good piece I'll be making my own sling! I just need to find some instructions online for the hole dimensions, a shaft, band material and a cap to mount on the bands to hold the spear. I love a good project!

the slip tip on my JBL polespear worked awesome on the carp I shot with it, a high end tip like the mori should work great
