Very difficult. In the end I chose the fish I would most like to catch myself! (And it's in the lead!).

I wish i could vote for two but.......exactly as sunfish said above, it's for the fish i'd have loved to have caught myself.

Well done!

Difficult. The biggest bass would be an obvious choice, Shiney seems to have a near monopoly of them :D - I must admit his regular big bass catches have been inspiring. And his fish look bigger in the pics. But a 6lb plaice sounds like a super fish and out of the ordinary (what would a typical good plaice weigh?). And by the catcher of the biggest bass, Gloworm. :hmm A ni'on 6lb lobster!!! Not strictly a fish but very serious seafood:D. [Did it put up a fight Spiderman, any nips?] But is a big fish just luck and a big target*? Perhaps the conditions warrant serious consideration: The lone December bass? The first bass of the year? Special consideration for August - perhaps the most active spearing month? Gilthead Bream - thats an unusual catch. Hmm, will need to think on this a little longer:D

[*I think not!]

Go the 11lb bass!!! Woo!
Yeah, me too. That's the sort of fish I dream of encountering, & when I have occasionally encountered such a fish, it's got away. It's charms, are as obvious as Jordan or Samantha Fox - size! Good write up on the circumstances too.

I'd be extremely happy with any those big bass. Or the large pollock. I'd be happy with any flatfish, so a 6lb'er is just gilding the lily. A Gilthead bream would similarly be wasted on me at this point.

The 5lb lobster might have got my vote if I knew more of the catch but probably my memory of this story was probably the crunch. Although it could be argued the 22lb net-caught bass story from Guernsey should have a similar impact.

[BTW in the photo's, for some reason Shiney's bass look bigger to me but the scale reading is clear. I think another bass caught in N. Wales left a similar impression. What's the best way to photograph them -- hold the fish forward?]

Well done everyone. Now to go and rest from all the sledging (or sledding as they say in the USA) - 2 days in a row - excellent!). Tomorrow, skis?rofl

Good stuff all you FOM winners, esp shiny1, that's just taking the p..s. Good luck for 2009!

40% v 22% looks like a lot of us are like minded in our thinking?

To my mind Shiny's bream has a lot going for it. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to shoot a double figure bass or pollack, but I've seen both often enough to know it's a good possibility.
The bream on the other hand is -
(a) rare
(b) extremely nice to eat, and
(c) a lot more difficult to shoot than any of the others.
Gloworm's plaice had me going a bit though:).
Spiderman's 6lb lobster and Scott's December bass are both better than I've done but I still go for the big bream.

amazing collection of fish lads. i've "cast" my vote....:t (sorry)

Sorry ... no matter what they say, size is important, and I voted for it!

Wow, 2 votes for my lobster :)
I didn't expect any votes with a 4lb Bream, a 11lb Bass and a 6lb plaice in the frame!
I'll bet nobody else's catch tried to eat their camera though rofl

Well done all, especially Shiny and Glowworm who left the rest of us standing.
