Hi,
It seems like the accepted advice for UK spearos is to get something between 75cm and 90cm ...e.g. shorter for the cloudier waters of Hampshire, Sussex & East, longer for the clearer waters of Cornwall (& Pembrokeshire?).

However, it is clear that people are using spearguns much shorter & somewhat longer than that. So, how big is(/are) your "weapon(s)"?:martial I have added a multiple choice poll above (select closest size(s)). Feel free to comment on what works well, doesn't work below & anything unusual.

The first gun I bought was a 100cm gun. I use this the whole time and have learnt to use it for all conditions (that I encounter). I like the range.

Wow - people are using 120 & 130cm spearguns in the UK! Is that for clear water (Cornwall?) / big fish? I expected to see a few people using really small guns like beauchats (35cm-60cm).

There is not really any point using anything smaller than a 60. A 60 is usable in pretty much zero viz, and anything smaller has almost no range.
I use a 120 Gabbiano or 130 Mamba for specific boat dives, where I am expecting to see schools of bass in clear water, and use a long gun to pick off the big fish at the back. I never use anything longer than a 100 (and normally use a 90 or 75) for shore diving. On most inshore spots the bigger bass are in holes or down under the kelp, so a long gun is an encumberence
cheers
