This might seem a little off the wall, but i'm also a deer stalker, and there are some very good ghillie suites available for concealment, just wondering if it would be possible to make one for spearfishing and what material would be most suitable, you could end up looking like a blob of weed ,which would be a great advantage for bigger more skittish fish,i've googled it and don't think anyone currently makes them.

It's been done by a guy in italy. Mask full of fake weed and other stuff concealing it. He said it works. As soon as i find the pic ill post it.

Ya. I have made ghillie suits (dont ask). why not do them with the same concept as a land based one. I.e. a net anchored to a suit, covered in actual seaweed? swimming would be a nightmare, and it would be an entrapment hazard, but it might fool the fishys. with ghillie suits, self made is best on land, as you can actually match to a specific location, so maybe same in the sea?

I think a net and actual seaweed is a definite no no,for obvious danger/weight reasons.I was thinking a cheapish suite and hundreads of strips of light plastis strips of about 12-18'' long and maybe 1'' wide glued to it with aquasure or similar. You could use 3/4 different shades of dark browns/greens.The stringy plastic stuff on the end of a childs kite (but wider) is the kind of plastic i'm thinking of,it would move nicely in the current I think,as well as adding probably no more than a Kg to the suite.I think this would break up the human form enough to get a little bit closer,I think I have a new project, anyone know what type of plastic that is and where i'd get it ?

why not get one of the cheapo camo tents or similar and cut them up for your material? it is a really light nylon and will be a little more robust?

I can only imagine the looks you would get walking down a beach in one of these I get enough strange looks as it is.

would be interesting to see if it works though

the mask i posted looks indeed ridicolous but the guy says it works. Especially because light reflections on the lens are the big issue, at least that's what he says.
BTW, i would never go around dressed like that rofl

I can see it now, little Jonny and Mary playing at waters edge, and you getting up on you knees 10 yards from them and starting to walk towords them ,it that getup, priceless.
