OK, well there have been a few suggestions for an informal Fish of the Winter thread and no ones started one yet... so here we have it :)

Just for fun, enter your winter fishes [caught from now on] over the winter, and lets have a poll in March to see what's what.

How about measure your biggest scallop too for a biggest scallop of the winter - should be intersting to see what peeps can find!

anyone got any further thoughts? :)

I like the idea of a Fish of the Winter comp - a lot! (Even if it is only unofficial)
For my two-pence-worth, December FOM should be re-started and there should also be a Fish of the Winter competition, to cover from Jan - March.
.
This is good, Dec FOM and then the winter FOW... I like it!

Great idea Jonny250 :) Do you want us to weigh or measure the fish? Is this thread only for the entries?

Would be great to see some cod speared over the winter months and put up here ;)

Well there you go jonny - another bass wins the winter league LOL.
Fantastic fish Shiny, are you going to tell us how you managed to spear those beauties?

Dont make it a comp, use it just to show what fish are about and can be taken over the winter if conditions are right and you manage to get in. If its a comp these 2 will kill the thread dead. Any fish taken through the winter is good to see. It could be a 2lb flounder a 3lb mullet or even a small codling. Keep it as a winter gallery for fish taken in the UK and Ireland.
Anybody that gets in during the cold winter months is a winner!!

Hehe, i prefer the radio-controlled fish catching android explanation rofl

what boat is it? do you anchor up or have a boatman (i.e. is tide an issue for you?)

I would love to know where you find Bass at this time of year damn you!

The boat i use is a South African purpose built spearfishing boat.
A C-SKI 440 with a 40hp fourstroke on it. Yes i did anchor up. No boatman used its a secret spot, its the Eldorado of the bass world. Tides can be a issue yes.

Colin Chester got a C-Ski for sale at the moment at a bargin price. Here a link to his site if anybodys interested in one.

Great idea and great thread, I like the idea of just having a thread purely for bragging rights, then at the end of winter lets see if anything stands out!

PS, myself and a couple of the Irish boys will pop out this weekend and grab a few cod for you scott ;)

i'll start so... no cod yet but some fine winter scallop's.

Some big boys in this mix, if the missus hasn't chucked the shells I'll try to measure the largest, but some of the meat from them was.... massive!
