Hi Guys, I'm new to the forum and am looking for some help identifying a larger spear head I picked up recently, I have searched everywhere on the net to identify it without success, hopefully your experience will help. Cheers Al

It looks like a Harpoon head from the size of it. Have you tried taking it to a museum to see if they can give you an answer?

By the looks of the spear piece it belongs to commercial lance spear fishing from a boat the ring part is were the dynema cord is attached the lance is 6 meter or more or less If its made from inox its good used for tuna mostly

I did not enlarge photo at 1st glance its bigger than i had thought. its old ,it looks smaller not until the photo becomes larger you see its size could have been used for sharks or orcas i check on the internet its prehistoric in away

I think this piece is custom made most probably on of the further harpoons inserted stabbed in to a whale or other animal the 1st harpoon is fired into the whale that one is bigger. Then after they stab the whale with many like smaller harpoons so as not to loose the animal then gradually hall the animal on to the ship personaly not a nice thing to do to a whale
