survived 18m underwater of the Maldive

Divers survive hell surge
By CHRIS GRIFFITH in Brisbane
30 Dec04

GREG and Deirdre Stegman survived Sunday's tsunami in the ocean 18m underwater off the coast of the Maldive Islands.

The retired scuba diving instructors experienced underwater hell including being buffeted about like clothes in a washing machine when the tsunami waves ripped through them 5km out at sea.

The tsunami's fury then sucked them a further 10m down in a one-second underwater terror ride.

The couple, who previously ran Stegman's Swim World in Queensland, only survived because the tsunami was yet to unleash its full fury in shallower water.

Maldives tourist industry scared off by Scubaali! Dead Whales and humans washed up, survivours wish they were dead, horrors beyond belief inflict the Maldivies!
Maybe time to stop moaning and get on with rebuilding what youve got. it could have been a lot worse for you, just thank god it wasnt and try and get tourists back to your islands instead of trying to scare us off. Theres a whole load of people who would love tp be in your shoes today, wether they be dead or alive

Scubaali

I see that some of the links to your articles are dead or have changed. The links to your articles get redirected some areas on the web which have nothing to do with Maldives, and are actually quite annoying.

Has the government been warning you about some of the news that you are posting?

The link about the dead whale washed up at Full Moon resort, is faulty if you click its header and you have to click "full story" to see the article... and all just goes back to the topic of Tsunami.

Perhaps you should fly out from Switzerland and come to the Maldives and see some of the damage. In comparison to Sri Lanka and India, Maldives has not suffered as badly, in terms of life losses.

And by the way, the music video used on www.visitaddu.com to advertise Maldives is from the Caribbean?? If you guys really are Maldivians creating this website then surely you would have used music that is more local, like Mezzo, Sameeu or Ali Rameez. Also the way they pronounce Maldives is incorrect.

Cheers, from Maldives,
Sara

Time to put Maldives back on the map - literally

Monday, 10 January 2005

KOLHUFUSHI, Maldives (Reuters) - Some parts of the Maldives were so severely lashed by last month's tsunami that the government says the map of the paradise cluster of nearly 1,200 tiny islands literally needs to be redrawn.

If the view from a low-flying seaplane is anything to go by, it is easy to see why.
