This could be a useful information to forum members: Has it ever happened to you that You wanted to share some of Your contributions to db-forum privately? You pasted the somewhat long link (100+ characters) into Your message (eg outlook) but the recipient couldn't activate the link. The reason why this happens: on it's way to the recipient a server breaks up a text-string after every (approx) 76 characters (=line wrap).
The inserted link will be cut off at its end and cannot be activated, unless the remainder in the second line is copied and paste-/appended into the address-window of Your web-browser.
Inserting URL's pointing to db-forum posts into a new post reply will reduce them automatically to a length that will be sufficiently short. (in this case to less than 60 chars)
Example:
http://forums.deeperblue.net/showthread.php?postid=194887#post194887
But now let's say I want to paste the link to a forum-article into a private email (length: 100+ characters)
How can I reduce the length of a link to a db-post for sending it directly by email ? I either cut out the (approx. 35) characters between "php?" ... and "postid=" or I use the free service of http://makeashorterlink.com.
There You can insert Your "long" link and have it substituted by a short one that will not exceed 40 characters. That way it will be portable with almost any email-program. Makeashorterlink.com will reduce ANY Url to a transportable size (via email).

http://makeashorterlink.com/?Q18B52F62
In the example below only makeashorterlink.com will work:
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.ad...=13&latsec=0&longdeg=16&longmin=23&longsec=00
I had it reduced to:
http://makeashorterlink.com/?U2EE52F62
