I am just starting to use a speargun and i dont know if i should hook the floatline to the the gun or the shaft
any help would be great

Using Floats

Im freediving basically going for hogfish and other snapper and grouper i eventually want to spear bigger fish and try to jump to get in on a school of dolphin but i dont think my gun can handle it i have a jbl carbine that was given to me by a friend

For what you are doing you should go with the standard floatline
setup. Hook one end of the floatline to your gun and the other end to your float.You didn't say what size carbine you have so not sure what size fish you could shoot with it.If you decide to go after bigger fish you should use a breakaway rig that will allow you to keep your gun in hand for backup shots and let the fish battle it out against your float.Do a search for floatline and breakaway and you'll find some examples and pics.
