The valve on my Mares is leaky is there some way to repair it. I took it apart and it looks like a sealed valve. Do I need to buy a brand new one. I have already located it on spearfishing world.
any suggestion would be welcome
JM

What model ? I have had luck soaking in coke a cola over night and a blow out with canned air followed by fork oil soak before refit, but that was on the old ball valves.

Cheers, Don

its a mares californian
I can try your suggestion its easy enough
thanks

The inlet valve is not sealed, you unscrew the black plastic part and out comes a spring with a coiled conical shape with a small inox ball on top which is biased by that spring. Under the inox ball is the small "O" ring seal which needs to be replaced. This assumes that you have the inlet valve body already removed from the gun.

Fantastic Pete I will definitely try that
There is a small nipple at the end I tried to unscrew it but it looked fragile and ready to strip, so I backed off, but now gently I will try it again.
Any suggestion on your side. I have almost completely overhauled that gun thanks in large part to ppl like you on this forum
Thanks again

Hey Guys
I did it, pushed it out and replaced the O Ring
hearty thanks

Pete I wanted you to know that thanks to your help I have now repaired the Mares Californian, I have bought another 1 and I am shocked to discover that they have very different build one has metal piston the other is a Nylon piston and the valve at the back of the gun is now a screw type..
Thanks again Pete

I am glad to hear that your repairs were successful. Mares changed the gun construction a long time ago, the bayonet hand pump connection probably cost more to make than the threaded connection. Plastic pistons reduced piston mass and do not corrode and are probably cheaper to make once the cost of the production moulds was paid off.
