Hi to all.
I have been trying to go free diving in the last 2 weeks but unfortunately the water conditions has been very bad. I visited whyte bay cliff cove and porteau cove. The water was extremely muddy visibility under 2 meters. This summer is the worse from the last 3 years. I suspected that all this has something to do whit the building of the new high way for Whistler. If someone knows a good diving spot around Vancouver please feel free to share the info.
Thank you .
Alex

Hi Alex,

Try Ansell Point: turn off the sea to sky highway at the Ansell Place exit. Turn left and go across the overpass. Take the first left down the hill and follow all the way to the end. You will pass under a train track. There's a parking lot on the right. Park there and take the stairs down to the beach. There are downed trees there but you can enter the water. This is why many divers go. You can also hike a bit to the right of the main rocky beach along a path to a "cleaner" rocky outcrop which a little less of a disaster zone.

I was at Ansell on Sunday and the viz was not so good in the first 5m but fine below that. This kind of bad viz is not unusual when it gets warm and there are algae blooms. Also, if there's heavy rains the run off can muddy things up a bit. Otherwise, the viz can range between 5-10m top down, 10-15 bottom top, and 5-20 m laterally.

Good luck!

Pete

Thanks i will check it tomorrow or in the next few days. Well winter time the water was so much clear. I was on Vancouver island 3 weeks ago at Port Renfrew and the water was crystal clear. I always wonder why there is nobody diving there. It is far away but the water conditions are just the best i have seen in Canada.
