vancouver island spearfishing

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I believe there are forum members in the Vancouver area - we see questions about 7mm wetsuits & thick gloves and such like from time to time! I'll see if I can make this thread show up in the appropriate regional forum and/or the Beach Bar, as well as here in the Beginner Spearfishing.

Yes...I've moved this to the USA/Canada Buddy Network thread & created links to it from Spearfishing Beginner and the Introductions & Greets areas :)

Hey I live on van island and was wondering if anyone on the site was as well. extremely interested in learning to spear and free dive.

Thanks
Hey Moonzs,
I'm in the same boat, I have most of the gear needed and just need a buddy. PM me and we will try and work something out.

There's some of us... sometimes dives are newbie friendly many aren't unless you've got a good handle of yourself!

I am wanting to plan a newbie day soon, since there are a few people interested - but no offenses intended here, I'm not interested in taking anyone spearing with me since I am foremost a solo diver and do not want to be responsible for other peoples limitations or common sense with sharp things that go flying through the water in low vis while they're still trying to manage the fundemental diving skills.

That said, probably a breakwater day before the season kicks off in April to see how comfortable people are in the water, with the gear, with no tanks etc.

Luca - you know Cam? If it's the right coincidence I dive with him.

Hey Gron,

Sorry I don't think I know a Cam on Vancouver Island.
But this newbie dive sounds like a lot of fun, I completely understand not wanting to bear the responsibilities of taking people who are new to the sport out.
Give me a message when you have more details, you can definitely count me in!

I'm in too! I would really like to meet some other divers around here. I live in Sooke, I just got back to the island, I was learning to freedive on Maui, and recently did my FFI level 1, but I'm waiting for my cold water suit in the mail, it'll be a few days still.
So far I havent done any spearing, just rec freediving (not more than 70' or 1:30) I have a speargun that needs bands, I'll get that sorted out shortly.

I am new to Van Island but not to freediving. Dive mostly Bahamas, Hawaii, Egypt. I want to get diving here tho. would love some guidance and a buddy!
