Hi,

I'm new to spearing as of this winter... Picked it up as a no wind day sport. I was Kiteboarding for three months in the Baja. So far the safest thing you can be is a fish when I enter the water with a spear gun. But I love the sport. I've joined the vancouver apenaist club and will be doing some more training there. I think my spear gun is way to big for bc waters @ 140 cm..... I'll probably get a 60 to 70 cm with reel...

My next purchase is going to be some carbon fiber fins and then The 7mm wetsuit.... ( that just sounds gross ) would love to get away with a 5mm but Seems like if i'm going to dive here I need the 7mm.... The 5 just seems like it can be used around the world alot more. The 7 says i'm staying here forever...

then after that I'll get the short gun...

Would love to talk to vancouver spearos... either to do breath hold training or dives... or whatever!

Peace,

Brian

Hey Brian,

Did you get your suit? if you would like to get out this week end the weather looks sunny....
We could try an get some greenlings in howe sound, or dive for crab...
I launch the boat out of porteau mostly, this is a good spot to check out if you don't have access to a boat.
Don't worry about the size of your gun, just depower it with dropping a band or two, and don't shoot right into the rocks...
Send me a message if you want to try and get out this weekend.
Open to anyone if they are interested....

Garret

me and the rest of the crew have spare guns. i'm in aussie land right now but ill be back in about a month and you can use one of my guns. i don't really spear so much any more but the boys do. i more so just run a cam and make movies. but in the summer we go just about every day that we can.

we are looking at getting a boat at some point but as of now we know so really cool spots up the sunshine coast.

Cool hooked up with Garret the other day and It felt like summer.... Going to order the suit soon... couple weeks or so. We didn't get anything. But the diving was fun. Always keen to get out!

I use a one piece 4 foot pole spear, or alternatively a 30cm pneumatic. The main problem is everything except greenling is closed, pretty much.

Two days ago at Ansell I saw an ENORMOUS flounder (or perhaps even it could have been a small halibut), about 60-70cm long at 17m of depth. I bunted it with my snorkel and then it finally swam off. Also, the mink that lives at Ansell was in the water, and it checked me out -- previously I had only ever seen it on land.

That's not true they've opened up lingcod for everywhere but zone 28 - 29 allthough 29-5 is open need a boat to get to it....

So yeah everything is closed for around here it just means a road trip!

lingcod and rockfish dont open till may first in area 16 we always go up to sechelt and area like madprops said we all have spare gear including wetsuits.check us out at sinkphazefreedivers

Let's plann a weekend trip. Anyone up for it? I got a dive boat, can take up to 4 people, but would have to Land to gear up...

Hey guys,

I'm from the area and would love to head out with you. Don't have much for gear yet except for the fins/mask. But I'd love just to do some dives.

I'm headed to the Van freedive Practice at UBC tonight. It'll be my first practice!

I'd like to get the rest of the gear I'll need by the start of summer. Hopefully I will shoot a fish by the end of summer.

Cheers,

M

Cool Brian. I guess I'll se u there tonight. Ive got to come out to van early to do a bit of work, you doing much for the game. I was probably gonna grab a bite and watch it before practice.

Thanks!

Was a pleasure meeting you. With your fins or that mono fin Should be able to blow that PB out of the water... Was crazy how much more drive and effecient they are compared to mine...

Hey Brian - what PB did you get? Sorry I wasn't there, the game sucked me in...

I left right after we won a showed up late. I did 60meters... With my crappy fins. I tried gregs mono fin and Micheals Gara Bifins... So much better,You hardly use any oxygen.

Turns out you were right that I had tons of air to make the turn. :) Next goal is 75 meters... Then 100 meters...

Brian

P.S. Your a great Choach Jen!
