Hi I have just passed my PADI Open water and completed 5 other dives (Two just me and my buddy:)). This is someting I REALLY want to become much better at.

Each time I dive after about 20 - 30 mins I start to feel as if I am suffering from Sea sickness/ Motion sickness.

I do suffer from Vertigo and have been known to feel really ill on boats, cars, public transport (Haven't done a boat dive yet). I took a travel sicknes tablet 2 hours before I was due to dive, 1) because of the 2 1/2 hour journey to the Pufin Dive Center (Oban, West of Scotland, 10 meters visibility and rather warm), alas on the second dive the feel appeard and I have to cut short the dive after 17 mins.

I can't be the only one out there suffering from thism, that would make me the most depressed person in the world :((. I have also tried the Aqua straps, velcor straps with little balls protuding in one side, you basically fix the strap so the ball presses againt your pulse on your wrist. These work a treat when in a car, but not under water.

can any one give me any hint/tipsthat may help alleviate this horrible feeling.

(Oh if you do feel sea sick on a boat dive, Never lie down or go inside the boat, you boady cannot interperate why there is motion and your surroundings re not moving. If sea sick always look at the horizion this allows your brain to adjust, also if it is really bad and you don't have any aqua straps, try and locate a couple of elastic bands and pop the end of a platsic teaspoon under o that it presses against yur wrist, sorry if you alread know that )

I often get seasick on the boat, and have tried just about everything to avoid it. Just when I think I have a "cure", it rears its ugly little head again on the next trip. I have tried every type of pill, strap and even had a little electric shock bracelet on once. The only thing that I have found that consistently provides relief is a scopolomine patch. I put it on the night before diving, and take it off after the boat ride in (I change it daily because I hate the way it makes my throat dry). In the US it is available by presription only, but my physician doesn't have any problem scritping it for me when I plan a trip (I had consulted with him previous to my first use). I assume it is available in the UK.

ps: I have read in a couple of places that scopolomine is contraindicated for diving becuase of its additive affects with nitrogen narcosis. Narcosis has never been a big problem for me (I tpically dive between 80 and 120 feet, I think that's about 25 to 35 meters), but I do try to stay very aware of it.

Good luck, and keep trying until you find what works for you.
