A colleague sent me this photo today, had to share it, as it's just stunning! (Photo was taken yesterday)

Wow! Makes my heart jump! As far as the lure of the unattainable goes, mountains do pose a pretty tough competition to the sea!

Apparently it's one of the most harshest environments - makes it difficult for Taliban to cross over in the winter... which is why its our "quiet season".
:D

Here's more... taken by another colleague. Note the dead calf..

:D Ah yes, the good ol' dead calf or goat game. Apparently it's a lot like polo, except the teams are striving for the carcass instead of a ball. Quite a sight to see.

I am going to see it for myself next month :D Looking forward to that. It will be an experience!

Sarah - if you have time to read 'An Unexpected Light' before you go I would recommend it - good book ... maybe by Eliot ? Anyway you can google it :)

Are you going there? I'm green with envy.

There was a film I saw in my horse-crazy youth: The Horsemen, with Omar Sharif

We all dreamed of riding in a buzkashi and being as brave as that guy - got his infected leg chopped off with an axe and just got on his horse and rode away. Some tough people out there...

Crazy stuff. I've only seen pictures. They make me think of horseback rugby, with everyone crowding around and so forth. Quite a game indeed.

Beautiful pics, Sara :).

I can't wait to go! I will send pictures when I return. it will be interesting to see our camps out there and some of the rack and ruin.
