At the Auckland pool comp yesterday, Walter Steyn from Australia did a great dynamic swim of 201m. Judging from his great recovery and his improvement over the last 12mths, we will probably see even more from him in the year to come. I'm proud to be an Aussie!! .....way to go Wal!!!:friday

Cool, congratulations!

I predict we'll see a lot more joining "the club" within a year. As well as 100m cw...Probably in the next individual champs, 200m will be required to get into the finals

Fantastic, well done Wal! Knew you'd get there soon enough.

It's been a big year for Wal so far - 2 pool comps and 3 top 5 performances. And plenty more to come hopefully.

Wal was that with the new fin? Did you have much time to train with it?

God it's great to be an Aussie! Let me summarise the week:

Rugby Union 1st game: Australia 34 England 3
World Cup Football: Australia 3 Japan 1
Rugby Union 2nd game: Australia 43 England 18
NZ Pool Comp: Walter Steyn 201m
World Cup Football: Australia 5 Brasil 1 (ok I made that one up, but it could happen :D )

Well done Wal!

Cheers,
Ben

It was an awesome swim to watch, and I agree, Wal definitely has some more metres to come yet. Kudos!

Really good to have Aussies competing over here in NZ again as well.

Congratulations Wal. Way to go! That's a loooong way past most of us.
When you gonna go for that CNF?
Howard

Whooot!! Congrats from your long lost Canadian Cousin. Gonna have to come down and see ya sometime.

Thanks guys,
yeh pretty stoked with doing 201m in a competition, it's always much tougher even when you know you can do the distance. I used my new Leaderfins Hyper for that, only got it 1 week before the comp. Howard I gave up on CNF years back when Martin made it 80m :t
Hey congrats to you too Narsil !
Guy Brew (Narsil) pulled off a huge 7.24 static to set a new Kiwi record in the same comp as me.

Are some more details from the comp on :-

P.S. Rob ?!
Well an odd place to meet so to speak, last time I saw you was prob about 16years ago. You were having nightmares about having to ride your bike across the netherlands rofl
Just sent you a PM.

Wal,
well done!
I ahve been out of diving for a while, but will be looking to improve my dynamic next year. You do that on a monofin?

Thanks Erik and Dave.
Yeh using a monofin - Leaderfins Hyper. I think the Hyper Pro is probably nicer for dynamics, the Hyper wing&footpockets is solid rubber, doesn't float, the Pro model is a floating fin, much more like the andronov. Although the fin blades are the same and the footpocket shape is basically the same. Will get a chance to try out the Hyper Pro soon so will post on DB how
I find it. Having said that even the normal Hyper is still quite an improvement performance wise over an "old school" fin like a waterway. (And I love my waterway fins!)
I don't find the hyper footpocket as nice or comfortable as the waterway, but fit really depends on the shape of your foot. Am hoping the Pro will be a lot better, they can do custom fits with that fin too.

Cheers,
Wal
