I don't know if this the right place to post this thread, but I have confidence in the "powers-that-be" to relocate it if necessary.

I had sinus surgery yesterday...my second to date. I've never had problems equalizing (in scuba diving or freediving). I can count on one hand the number of times my ears wouldn't clear. Anyway, while my surgeon was inside my head, poking around...he decided to take a look at my eustasian tubes. He knows I'm a freediver, and took pictures of what he found...knowing I would be interested. Attached below is the photo of my eustasian tube. The doc told my husband I have the LARGEST blood vessel bordering the tube that he has EVER seen! He just had to take a pic!

I don't know what the big blood vein thing means, but figured y'all would be interested in seeing what an actual eustasian tube looks like! Enjoy!

pretty horrible billie, thanks! I can't see the tube itself? what am I looking at here? I beleive the entry is about 1 to 2mm diameter but in a resting state it will be squashed flat. Just can't see it in the picture.

Cool! Thanks for sharing.

You know, you've been on DeeperBlue for a while now and I think it's fair to say we all know you inside out...

rofl rofl rofl I think it's humour like that which got me sent back to the penal colonies :D

Glad the op went o.k Billie, not too sure about the answer though! Great pic by the way! I might get your doctor to try and take a pic of my brain, might make it look bigger....

Have you tried to goggle it to see what it means? I'm sure ther are some answers out there somewhere?

Wow! Thanks for posting that! I've always wondered what that spot looks like.

I presume that the opening is the slit that extends downward from the end of the arrow, very close and parallel to the big blood vessel. I also guess that the adenoid is the light coloured mound right beside it.

What direction was the endoscope pointing anyways? Backwards or forwards?

Tom

I'm not sure what side of my head this is...or which way the endoscope was pointing. Pretty cool, though, huh?

There goes Billie again....looking for attention, showing off her tubes.... :D

Billie!! We missed you last week.
I will be getting my sinus surgery this Monday Oct. 27. I can't wait to finally be able to breathe through my nose. The doc says that there is a good possibility that my equalizing will improve. Glad your surgery went well. Say hi to Todd and Austin.
Tony

Missed you, too! Good luck with your surgery! Maybe you can get some pics of YOUR tubes, too...

are you guys getting this stuff done to equalize easier? be honest now???....

No, Tony is doing it so he can ease his addiction to "Head-On".

It would be nice just to be able to breathe out of my nose. I haven't been able to do that for years. This surgery is also supposed to make the headaches go away.
Equalising easier might be a nice bonus though.

Let's see...my nose has been broken 3 times since 1998 (I'm very clumsy when on terra firma :crutch). Evidently, after the last rhinoplasty (2005), things weren't quite right in my sinuses. I had sinus surgery in 2006 to remedy those problems. Since the openings between each of my sinus cavities were widened, some bone removed here and there, and my septum re-worked...I've had not a single problem. That is, until the last couple of months. I'd been getting crazy pressure headaches...even doing DYN. I could still equalize, but my head would wake me up in the middle of the night absolutely pounding. Went in for some CT scans, and my doc realized my previous doc didn't fix things on both sides of my head.
So, no...didn't get the work done to equalize better. Do I think I have an advantage as a result of the surgeries...heck, yeah! I'll let y'all know how it goes next week, after my 8 day suspension from water activities!

PS Tony--play it for all it's worth. You'll look pitiful for a couple of days with the mustache dressing under your nose...and possibly a black eye or two!
