New to the site, so hello to all.

I'm looking at making a spear gun or two to satisfy my urge to build things. I'm pretty good at building most things so it shouldn't be too much of a challenge to build a gun from scratch.
My question is where do I find detailed books and such on building spear guns? Also is there any pointers on where things can go wrong with the building process,(what timber to use, different trigger mechanisms etc.)?

Thanks in advance, Eno

Ok, read so many pages on gun building now that I could probably pass an exam on this subject if someone set one up. Now to start building it.

I've found my timber and in the process of dressing it ready for gluing. I'm using teak - blue gum - teak, with teak along the bottom in T shape. I will post pics when I get a chance.

Whilst I was looking for triggers and such came across a Neptonic Enclosed Track (Neptonic Enclosed Track, Parts & Accessories - ScubasWorld) and was wondering if anybody has opinions on this, is it worth using this vs an epoxy track?

Also have an engineering buddy that can make me shafts, if I wish. He would be using stainless wire/rod, shaping, grooving sharpening etc. than heat treating it to spring steel specifications. It works out roughly 5 times cheaper than buying off the shelf, but will have to test them to find out if they're as good.

Will be a while till the new gun is finished, 3 kids under ten, work six days a week and am pretty lazy most afternoons, so it won't be rushed.
Slow and steady wins the race, or so I've been led to believe.

Eno

If you want to build an enclosed track then yes the Neptonic track is great & easy to fit.

Dont forget to post your progress please
