Hey All,
I’m new to the forum,
And I want to buy a gun… am looking for used ones so which one do you recommend for me? Knowing that I hunt in reef mainly for groupers (up to 5 kg) and for stingrays (up to 10kg). and I’m looking for accuracy, power and range.
1. Rob Allen 70 cm caranx railgun (20mm power band and 7 mm thickness shaft) like new.
2. OMER EXCALIBUR 2000 75cm like new.
3. 75 cm Imersion J.B. Esclapez Merou d'or (with 115cm Spear Shaft and with Sporasub/Dessault 5/8 bands).
Are these good guns for the mentioned applications ….or they are just too small for my applications??
If they are too small …do you have any suggestions?
your help is realy needed :D
Thanks for coop in advance! :D
Best regards
Mohamed Fakahany

HI Mohamed welcome to db, you dont give much info on your profile, where do you live for instance?
What do you do with the sting rays - eat them?

thanks foxfish :D
I live in Egypt, spearfish in the mediterranean and red sea. mainly i dive from the shore. For the stingrays part ...yeah i heard that they make a good meal .... but i dont know how they cook them :D
why dont we ask at the Recipes and Cooking forum !!
but please answer my questions.... :D
thanks for help :D

Will you be hunting purely in holes for the grouper? If not I think that a 70-75cm gun is a little short. The best advice you'll get is from Marwan as he hunts the same waters. I suspect he will tell you something like a 100 110 but of course it wouldn't be the first time I'm wrong rofl

Cheers pastor...:) always looking out for me mate :)
Fakahany ... reply sent..welcome to deeperblue

something i forgot to mention in my PM...if you are still starting out spearfishing, the 75cm guns are very good starters, they help perfecting your technique and getting closer to the fish...you could start out with that (perhaps the excalibur 75) and it wont be too short for most of the dives here and then with time as you get more experienced move up to a 100 which will be better overall for our waters...

Stingrays are exellent to eat. Same consistency as scallops. My wife makes me a spicy shrimp and stingray tacos.

I have not ever shot a stingray while underwater, but I can tell you, we shoot them from the deck of the boat sometimes in shallow water, and they will about pull you overbaord. They are very powerful, so be careful!
