Hello there ,

I wanted to see what some of you pros do to get ready for diving. Its starting to get alittle colder so warming up might not be a bad idea . I am going to do inhale dives (with packing) between 30m-50m. I sm also starting to tgrow in pool work.

I never really do anything special before diving or swimming. Wanted to see what some of you do to get ready.

cheers,
adelito

Hi Adelito,
I also find this interesting. Thank you for posting that question.
I'm not a pro (and I sure hope to see pros replies).
However, my preparation is doing some stretches mainly for the diaphragm and the rib cage and sometimes add to it a couple of minutes of relaxed full breathing (by full I mean using the diaphragm more than regular breathing). It helps me to enter a more apneic, breathing aware, state of mind.

You can order a video on stretching by Martin Stepanek on the FII website. Martin does all of the stretches, and seems to be a fairly good freediver (kidding). I got a copy so I could see how a pro does them. Helped me with my form.

The video is top notch and is a great routine. Pretty impressive as well. Worth the money and I do not know of any other video of its kind.

I'm not a "pro", but pulled some decent dives this year.
After doing a 91m constant weight dive, I wrote an article describing the preparation for the dive, and the dive itself. There's some photos of the Yoga poses as well. Maybe you'll find something you're looking for in there?
Article: Anatomy of a dive

For dynamics, my preparation is a bit different (I use the "no warm up" technique). I wrote another article about 6 months ago to describe the training and preparation I follow for a big dynamic:
Article: Swimming a 200m Dynamic

Now, I heard many different theories as to how to prepare for a big dive, so just take that as one example. I haven't had the time to experiment with everything yet :)

Beatifully written, indeed. You have a gift for writing, Tanguy. In plus of the factual content, it has also an excellent literal style. Especially amazing because, if I am not mistaken, you are not native English speaker.

Hey Tanguy. great articles! Thanks for sharing!

I have noticed those monofin shocks which looks strange to me... Can you give us some info about?

Indeed great articles! Thanks, I had a few great laughs reading through your narcosis article :D

Tip for dynamic and depth, try closing your eyes, especially in freefall.

That's not socks, but electrical tape! Last year I had a nasty infection because of a blister in Dahab due to a fast monofin kick at the bottom in a slightly big footpocket. Since then electrical tape became sort of a religion ;-)

I was laughing all the way!!! I have heard about some rare DIY´s but this is awesome... maybe, next Christmas, with a new monofin I definitely try it!

Great articles, above all because I´m mentally refusing to switch to "no-warmups". It´s a fear for the unknown and your writings has helped me.
