Hi there...would like to hear opinions on warm up/stretching techniques before running training.. i have heard so many.

Hey Sara,

I can give you a few pointers ;)

PM me for further advice

PS I knew my sports science degree would come in handy one day

c'mon Shane... i am sure you can show your pointers in public :D

if you are seriously after fat burning/cardio stuff and if you have will to do it, i recommend you High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).

You will jog for certain amount of time or distance then you will sprint. You will cycle this few time... You can adjust your jogging and sprint times according to your needs. You will get the maximmum results with shortest training time;)

i heard somewhere that sprinting will increase muscle in your legs (make them bigger).. and that a constant steady run at a good pace (as opposed to sprinting) will burn fat... what's your experience?

i am interested in fat burning... i am not overweight but would like to decrease in the more "womanly" areas ;)

jogging (constant low speed running) also burns fat but much slower that this HIIT training. You can get same results with HIIT training in 5 minutes opposed to 30 minutes jogging.

I tried both method with bicycle so i know it by experiance and this HIIT training also advised by many professionals.

By the way there is no way to burn fat without getting some muscle (or loosing it depends the situation). You spend energy (calories) with using your mucles so either way they will develop. Hovewer your legs will looks like slimmer and stronger coz you will burn the fat there, don't worry..you have to run to much to have legs like Marion Johnes:D

As soon as i finish these casino projects i am working on i will give you the full info on Endurance Vs Power training

hiit training

hi Murat
i found this website, among 1000s of others that talk about hit training...

i think i will try it over the next three weeks and then see the results. thanks for the tip!

one thing to watch out for is those ghastly stretch marks which are generated by the rapid loss or gain of mass, regardless wether it be muscle or fat, that affects the elasticity of the skin. 8kilos a month is a safe rate of weight loss, and dropping below a body fat ratio of 6% is unhealthy, especially for women.

lol! thank god i don't have to lose 8 kilos, actually i don't really need to lose any weight, i am just toning up. if i really wanted to be picky i could lose two kilos but that will happen anyway with the training.

Stretch marks..? i haven't met a woman of my age yet that doesn't have them. Actually i have not seen many woman over the age of 30 that don't have some stretch marks.. it's part of life. :) those don't bother me.

I was told that a safe rate of weight loss was one kilo a week. One could go crazy reading up on theories of exercise and weight loss...:head

wait i think you are right sands..its eight pounds/ four kilos...

ah... you had me worried there :) i had visions of having to go out and sweat more to lose 2 kilos a week :( that's heavy going!

Murat, I agree with you on the HIIT type training. Sands, I wouldn't focus on amount of weight lost at all if you are looking to tone. Muscle weighs more than fat and you will make yourself crazy. Make sure you have a high protien intake and lots of water.

Jog, stretch, run...
You must always heat up your muscles and get blood pumping to avoid injury during stretching. After your proper stretch go or your run, wiht improved flexibility...

i dont' so much weigh myself anymore... i noticed that i was getting slimmer with running but weighing almost the same. initially i lost 4 kilos, kept going and getting slimmer but staying the same weight.

so decided to buy a pair of trouser that were a bit tight and the goal was to get into them. that worked. :) :)

i tried the HIIT yesterday on the beach after work, it was great. i also put in some squats in between the running and sprinting. After 20 minutes i was well heated.

good one Murat, think i will keep up with this!

running down a beach butt nakd :p...now that is a nice* idea.. Shane? any input buddy?

naked running

hey! would love too... but on this island .... never! i don't fantasise about 2500 bangladeshis and indians watching me run naked... or anyone for that matter! hehehehe
