Was wondering who makes the warmest 5mm glove for free diving, in temperatures around 38 to 42 degrees fahrenheit ?

The ones that fit the best. Too loose and water will flush through them. Too tight and blood flow will be cut. Either way your hands will get cold.

Stick with gloves that are tight enough at the wrist to wear beneath the sleeve of your wetsuit. Be wary of gloves that have velcro closures to keep the water out. This type is worn outside of the sleeves of your wetsuit. The cuff makes a great funnel to catch water and push it into the gloves while ascending.

I use 7 mm 3-finger mitts from Imersion for winter diving (no spearfishing). I think I'd go with the same in 5 mm if I was spearfishing.

I use 5 mil elios 3 finger mitts down to 34F. I never tuck them into my suit however - I used to tuck them in and wear wool gloves underneath - but worn o outside they are much much warmer. My hands generally just don't get cold. They will flush a bit if I swim with my arms - but it is not a problem.

These are the warmest things out there:
DUI Dry 5 Wrist Seal Gloves - DUI Cold Water Gloves

They are crazy expensive, but if you check ebay they come up for sale from time to time- that's how I bought mine.

I don't use them all that much because the fingers are so bulky that it makes it hard to adjust my camera controls. I can also not fit my trigger finger into my speargun with these things on. Still, they are very warm and I like them for some types of diving.

Keep in mind that I have injured my hands due to cold exposure in the past and my hands freeze out faster than any other part of my body- too many years skiing in crap conditions as a ski patroller.

Most of the time I use the same mitts as Fonduset. My first pair of Elios mitts very OK, but my second pair I decided to buy a size larger and these are my all-time favorite mitts. :inlove
