I have a sporasub 7mil right now that is good but I am considering buying a second suit and I am wondering if anyone that has tried a few more suits than me can give some reccomendation for a very warm 7mil....I have heard Picasso Ghost is a warm suit. Does anyone know of a warmer one? Thank you,
Kale

Hi Kale
I dived with my Imersion 7mm suit in cape town last night, the water was 9degC and i was toasty (except for my hands!) :)

:wave

I use a 5mil Elios and dive in 30 degee (F) 0 Degree (C) - and my body is fine- it's my toes that gets cold - but not until a few hours.

anybody got some tricks on not getting freezing toes ?
Will a monofin help ,since the toes are capsuled in ?
Why aren't toes capsuled in on bifins ? aka omer millennium.

Picasso Ghost.. off the shelf at least $450..
Eliossub.. tailor made to fit.. $350u.s... (mostly due to the bad euro to usd exchange) what's to figure?

how can you move in a 7mm?? my winter wetsuit is 3.5mm and already its a hassle in wearing it

If you wear one all the time, Marwan, you don't notice the restriction. The buoyancy change when you dive is the biggest hassle.

Ask Elios to make you up some open cell socks with an outer seal to tuck under your suit bottoms. It worked for another member from Norway :)

bifins footpockets are cut at the toes to give a way out for water. If they fill in with water there'll be smaller room for the feet and that'll hurt.
Bit of history: first open toe bifin was the Cressi Rondine in the late 40's, designed by Luigi Ferraro. Our modern rubbers give a better seal so water leaking has become a smaller problem, but go figure in the 40's, with that extra-hard tyre rubber that was the only one available.....

Hmm still wondering if im gonna try sealing the opening on my omers :)
Thanx for the history lessen thoe :)

God call Pastor, but wouldnt I get the same effect just by turning my socks inside out,so that the opencell will be on the outside and get a waterlock against my suit.
Or just buy a pair of omers, they make that kind of socks, whit opencell on the outside, anyway I have tried turning them inside out- and I still freeze :(

Irritating getting out of the water after 30 minutes, just becouse of my toes are freezing, when the rest of the body is just fine.

That is nuts! The coldest it gets here is about 46f. I don't know anyone who dives here in a five mil and stays warm for more than a couple hours. I'll look at the Elios. How old is your suit? Thanks,
Kale

I got my Elios suit last April - the "econo" line - Open cell- We're probably diving Lake Michigan on New Years Day- should be in mid 30's I would think (heat Wave) The coldest I've been in so far was 29 degrees and was still fine on the body. Getting out on the other had is a different story- 8 degrees (f) air temp - does not help things.

We have touched on this subject before - some people dont feel the cold like others & some people carry their own insulation!

Scott,
Do your dive buddies dive that thin of suits? I stay warmer than most of my buddies and I have a good layer of my patented lycrafur under my suit, but that sounds really cold. I dove Lake Superior in the summer and it was a balmy 41,lol. Let me know what some of the other Wisconsinites are wearing please.
Thanks,
Kale

Most everyone is wearing 5mm open cell (Elios, Omer, Beuchat, Spetton)- That's it. We all stay fairly comfortable except for those who have 3mm gloves and socks- I believe Wreckrunner just got his new 6mil Elios and will be joining us on January 19th In Sheboygan- I havn't dove the Great Lakes in Winter, so I 'm not sure what the water temp is- I know it's warmer that 30! so, it shouldn't be too bad.

Scott,
You Wisconsinites are in a class of your own! I am not even considering a 5mm. How long do you stay in the water? I usually stay in for 5-8hrs with a lunch break in between. Custom fit must make a big difference.

When I was in Lake Mendota - the shore entry temp was 29 degrees (f) and the temp out where we were diving was about 32/33 degrees and we were in for about 3 1/2 hours and had to get out cause our toes and fingers were cold- Our bodies were fine.

In Lake Monona the entry temp was 30 - BUT there is a warm water discharge that got up to 54 degree. So swimming in and out of the warm and cold water we were in for about 3-4 hours and got out cause my toes - once again.

Lake Michigan was in the mid 40's and we stayed in for a good 6 hours- and got out cause it was time to go. I'll post how it goes for us tomorrow.
