Just a quick poll, what is the warmest lining for the inside of a wetsuit?
I've been looking at buying a suit for awhile and would like something that goes all year round and would like to know what everyone thinks is the warmest.

OpenCell, sticks to your skin better than anything else short of superglue, reduces water entry intom the suit and movement of water during diving, which reduces the thermal loss.

I understand where you are coming from but a better question would be who uses what lining in what circumstance.

Having used most kind of suits I now use a nylon lined inside and out MTM 5mm suit for spearing in water temp's of 8 to 16 degrees C. In winter (the 8 degrees) I add a 2mm vest underneath my suit.

This lining may not be as warm theoretically as smooth skin or open cell but it does the job plus its easy to put on (much, much easier), lasts at least twice as long and is generally more durable and can take all sorts of abuse.

Personally I shall not go back to smooth cell or open cell for use in the conditions I dive in. Maybe if I lived in Canada or Alaska I would have to but not for what I do now.

I can see where your coming from Dave.
I would like a suit that I can use all year round and is rugged enough to survive for a long time and is easy to get on and off. Maybe closed cell is the way to go for me.
Thanks for the tip.

Open cell no doubt. I will even risk a statement that if 6 or 7mm in custom fit will match warmth of a dry suit.

Hmmm now I'm even more confused. I need something with the warmth of open cell but the ease and durability of closed cell.....would you say Blacklite or metalic lining would be middle. Not as warm but tougher and easier to get on and off?

Sam I dive all year in melbourne in a 5mm beuchat open cell with titanium lining. I don't see what everyone complains about putting open cell suits on being difficult? I use talcum powder now and it works great, and my skin stays soft! if you look after your suit you'll get a few seasons out of it, I've done 1 full year of diving now and i have a few nicks round the cuffs of my suit but I just inspect it every few dives and use some seal cement and repair them. I recon I'll be using this same suit in 4 years time still. it's comfy and easy to move in, no restrictions at all!

Hmm thanks for the advice, I was thinking 5mm to be warm all year. And open cell would be more flexible. Thanks for the tip, glad i got it from someone here in Melbourne too.
Cheers.

5mm open cell sounds good. Just need to find one lol.

Do your self a favour and check out elios for a custom suit, I don't think it's any more than buying one off the shelf and being custom you can rest assured that you'll be warm. plus you could order 3mm bottoms for going north and summer. My next suit will be an elios.

How ever you might get over whelmed buy the different options. You should come down to the southern freedviers meeting this wednesday if you can, 8pm dandenong footy club. check out www.southernfreedviers.org.au
